#92242, "safe to block off valve cover breather?"

well heres why. i decided to do a little burnout tonight just messing around . and when i get home i smell oil so i look and not the PCV valve. but the breather tube all the way to the right of the valve cover had lost the little breather filter i had on it . but thats not the bad part. the bad thing is there was alot of oil everywhere. it looked like it was gushing out all over the place and i know it happened when i did the burn out . but i do drive fast alot and i never saw this happen b 4? i normally have a breather filter on it down near the ground but maybe its been loosing oil like this for a while cause i do loose a lil oil over time in this car and its not burning it. so a: why is all this oil blasting out of that tube and B: is it safe to just block it off with a vacuum cap so i dont loose oil through it. My PCV is working fine. i have that run to a catch can and so on but what about this breather?

blowby. Do an compression test and see if you mabey have a cyl going bad. I get a bit of blowby to, but I would say not more than a 1/4 shot glass for a whole day of auto x.

don't know here. I disconected my pcv valve and now have it set up like this.
From pcv area of valve cover(far left port) goes to one side of my catch can. The other port on my valve cover (far right) port goes to my intake AND my catch can. I wish I had a pic for you, I also have a filter on the hose that goes toward the intake.

ya . my far left ports for my PCV are all fine they run to catch can i made . but the right port i def dont want to route back into manifold if it sprays oil like that sometimes cause i dont want car to smoke it out.. if i can block it i would rather. but i dunno? also after this happened i just hooked a rubber hose it it and let it hang down and i drove it fast and normal too and i didnt see any oil comin out of it but i know sometimes it has to .. i dunno ( temporarily i did what u said. hooked the PCV hose and the breather hose together and ran to a sealed catch can and then i have the vacuum source on top of catch can , will it hurt to have catch can sealed? or must it have its own filter also on a seperate barb for fresh air? )

I would advise to continue to monitor what's going on with your car to make sure you don't have a bigger problem developing. My advice to you would be to route your VC breather to the catch can you already have and see what kind of blow-by you're getting in there. In the meantime, I'd lay off the burn-outs emoji

i was thinking about it and ive decided to run the very right breather port to a vented catch can with no vacuum line, cause i was reading about it and it basically shows that port as a inlet for fresh air to mix with whats being sucked out through the PCV valve. and my PCV has its own sealed catch can. will this work or should i leave them both attached to a sealed can? i dont wanna have the system not working right by not gettin any fresh air so i dunno?

are you going to do a compression test or do you not want to know how bad of condition your motor is in?

i did a compression check today and got the same results i had when i first bought the car stock. i got 200-200-190-205 , is that ok ? its less than a 10% adjustment from cyl to cyl. thats also damn near the same results i had got when i 1st bought my car stock. my clear breather catch can i installed has no oil in it after driving the car hard for about 5 straight hours today so i dunno whats goin on?? its about 95 degrees out all day too.

I actually had this same thing happen to me a while back. Of
course, I was also leaving a quarter-mile trail of white smoke
behind me afterwards, too. Fresh after turbo install running
4psi to test things, I go down a hill while engine-braking and
start seeing smoke out of my hood. Get to my friend's house,
there's oil -everywhere-.

At first I thought I had a leak in one of my turbo oil-feed
lines, but it turned out to be blowing out of the valve cover.
Compression test went something like 175-60-60-50. Not good.
Turns out I physically cracked 3 pistons somehow, and was
compressing my crank-case, which was sending exaust and oil up
through the oil return passages and blowing it all out.

Did give me a good excuse to overbore and install my JE forged
8.8's, though. Somehow if you have good compression and
you're not choking the people behind you in white smoke, I
suspect you have a different problem.
