#91882, "2.4 oil pump porting"

i've been toying with the idea of porting the 2.4's oil pump and am wondering about the pressure output, should i also shim the spring to increase pressure? i read a section on stockum's site a while back about this subject and want to know if anybody else has had success with it. let me know...chris

a pump doesnt create pressure.

it creates flow.

RESTRICTION to flow causes pressure

as u know, my pump is ported. now i dont have an oil pressure gauge so i dont know for sure if it increased pressure at all, but in theory it definately does raise the oil pressure, because a higher volume pumped into the same oil gally will cause a pressure increase.

id need an oil pressure gauge to verify that though

Should have kept editing. emoji

I stand by my belief that the first mod to any 420a (or any motor, for that matter) should be an oil pressure gauge. Of all the really cool, awesomely destructive ways to kill a motor, rebuilding because of a spun bearing or galled cam caps is a bit anticlimactic, wouldn't you say?
