Sorry if i'm posting this in the wrong section but I just wanted to know if anyone has driven around without the heat shield that goes in the rear muffler section of our cars. The reason i'm asking is cause I just installed a new hks hiper exhaust system on my 96 GS and accidentally forgot to put the heat shield back on. I didn't notice until after I was all done bolting on the new exhaust system so I figured I would just leave it off. Has anyone else driven without this shield on? The exhaust is not rubbing up against anything so I figure it should be okay but I just wanted to know if anyone thinks this can lead to a fire or melting of my trunk.

Thanks. I just thought i'd ask because i've seen pictures of cars with their back bumpers all melted so I figured that the exhaust must get real hot. Either way, i'm going to keep an eye on things for the next few days just to make sure.

one of my bolts broke in the heat shield and was makin a lot of noise so i took it off. have had if off for like 4 months now and no problems. as long as the tip or even the whole muffler isnt touchin the bumper, im sure u wont have any problems without the shield.
