he almost stroked out when he realized i didn't have a high amp fuse or circit breaker on my + battery line close to my battery. he says since i did the relocation to the trunk and ran the wire inside along the drivers side, that if anything ever happened like a screw being screwed thru it that it would arch and catch fire before poping the main fuse in the engine bay... no kit that i have found even includes a fuse or CB. do i need one or is he wiggidy whack? (my logic tells me i don't, but iv'e been wrong before)

You always want to fuse any positve voltage wire at the battery(or closest to the battery as possible. This fuse will protect the wire run from the battery to wherever it leads to. Your friend was correct..it could easily cause a fire if you dont have a fuse. A 100-120 amp ANL fuse w/holder would be your best bet. The rule of thumb is to fuse within 12" of the pos batt terminal.

I've always wondered about that too. I've been wanting to relocate my battery to the trunk for a while now, but to fuse the starter, I would need a HUGE fuse or circuit breaker, what is the standard practice for this type of thing?
------------- the first solution that comes to mind for any new problem with my car usually involves a can of gas and a match....

thats for a kill switch, which i have on my negative side, not for a protective fuse or circit breaker.

Of course you want a fuse between your MAIN POWER LEAD and everything else. Just put an inline fuse in-line with the cable about 6in. from the battery. He's most definately being straight with you on that topic. If a metal object (screw or other) went through the cable, and grounded the lead, and there was no fuse between to kill power, you'd fry the whole cable as well as expose everything near that cable to high heat (think fire hazard), not worth it when you could prevent it from ever happening for about $5. Put a fuse in it, GRRR!!!
