Well I just got my alternator replaced and now I have a couple idle problems. First one, when I start the car up it, RPM's climb, then drop off just like normally only they go down to 400-500 RPM's, it does like a bogging down sound and then goes back up to the normal level. Second when I'm driving and I come to a stoplight or I'm just coming to a full stop, when it drops down to first gear it does the same thing as when I start it up....RPM's go way down and it sounds like its going to bog out. I'm not too familiar with the different sensors for idle accept for the idle control sensor lol, and that they're located around the intake manifold and tb. So I guess if you guys could just give me a guess or an answer to what my problem is for what sensor it could be and how much they are. If anyone has any questions in clarification just ask! Also, this is an a/t Thanks!

I will also be taking it back in to the shop so then from my answers on here I can inform the mechanic from the start of what I think the problem is.

I would first look for any vaccum leaks with carb cleaner before replacing the AIC.

There is a vacuum line (rubber and/or plastic line) that runs from the top of the throttle body, along the intake manifold plenum, and alongside the fender. From there it is connected to a steel hard line. I would do a visual inspection to see if it was knocked off when the alternator was replaced considering that it is in the same location as the alternator. Also, if you have cruise control, the rubber vacuum line goes into a "T" fitting in the same area just before it reaches that hard line. Check to see if that is still connected. I just finished installing cruise control in a car that didnt have it to begin with and that "T" fitting was capped on one side. I ended up having to use that port so I took the cap off, but it is possible that it is unused on your car and was knocked loose. <-- all that would be located directly underneath the throttle cable "interchange" box on the firewall. Good luck! also, like ^^^ he said, test it with that before you start buyin stuff

Thank you both very much for your input, i'll be sure to check on that tomorrow! How exactly would I go about testing it with the carb cleaner? I'm not quite sure I understand exactly how to do that? Sorry

You want to spray the carb cleaner on the vacuum hoses connections to test for leaks or cracks with the car idling. If there is a leak or crack, the idle will rise. Eclpsmoneypit95 described where the vacuum hoses run.

Warning: be careful spraying the car cleaner. If you get it on your exhaust it will cause it to ignite. Not a problem if you use the straw, spray sparsely, and don't spray directly on the exhaust emoji.

Since it has just happened since you got the alternator replaced, there could be a lose hose or one could have been damanged if the person took it off and put it back on to get to your alternator.
