WOW, ya dont bring it to a mechanic unless you are extremely mechanically challenged. all you need to do really is loosen the alternator bolt so you can move it around (you do this under your car) then slap a new bolt around the crank pulley and the alternator and tighten the bolt back up so the belt is tight and your done. would take you like an hour maybe since its your first time.

Its really easy, there is a bolt that goes through the alternator towards the front end of the car. Its located on the back of the alternator towards the top. If you have small hands you can go from above by the intake manifold (you may have to remove the cruise control box if you have it (just a couple of small bolts)). If not, you need to go from underneath... its sort of behind the oil pan/filter.

Basically, when you loosen the bolt the alternator should begin to drop slowly... loosen the bolt enough so that the belt fits around it, then tighten it back up.

Come to think of it, i think there is a bolt on the side of the alternator (facing the passenger side wheel well) that needs to be loosened before the tensioner bolt can be loosened (i could only get to this one from up top).

I would suggest taking the wheel off, as well as the black plastic piece behind the wheel(just a couple screws). if you do that, you can clearly see the crank pulley and where the belt connects to the alternator pulley. Once you do that, you will see how easy it is. Should take 30 minutes TOPS.
