Not sure if this is where i should post thins but... I know my check engine light is always on cause if have a straight pipe on. Is there a way to turn that darn light off? Its driving me nuts!

ya i have had it checked..its cause i have a straight pipe so the o2 sensor is is reading too much fuel. problem goes away when i put my cat back on...and since i run primarily with the straight pipe.. the light is always on and becomming very annoying..but thanx for the advice

There is a resitor mod for the rear O2 sensor. You might search "rear O2 + elimination" or something along those lines. I think you should find a link to a GN site or something. It's been a while since I've seen it come up. I'm sure someone has it bookmarked.

i'll check it out..thanx for the idea! didnt know we could eliminate the rear o2... but do u know if it causes emissions probs?

Yeah it is directly due to the cat being removed. The ECU is like, "hey... uh.. there's something important missing"

Like brian said, there are hacks out there to fix it.

edit: my friend had a CEL on his AWD Talon for two months, the car ran like shit, idled poorly.. he was on the virge of selling it. I looked in the engine bay and noticed the MAF was unplugged! Solved all the problems, and runs perfectly

Might want to make sure something obvious like that isn't at fault first.

it runs fine, and when i put my cat on for emissions it passes great... but im looking to bypass it completely like you would a honda.. converting obd2 to obd1...can we do that on our cars? or is it only a resister that we can do?

Just do the resistor mod to bypass it. Search for it. I have a '95 and don't get a check engine light for my rear o2. I don't even have the rear sensor plugged in.

i made the resistor mod and it works fine. no cel ever. mines a 97 . i used : 1) a 1 million ohm resistor 2) a 1 microfarad capacitor 3)a 12 Ohm 12 watt or greater resistor. cost me like 3$ for everything at an electronics store. if u wanna make one let me know ill scan how to hook it up .

Yeah its a good idea to by-pass instead of just unplugg it because then if you shoot a CEL for another reason, you'll know somethings up. If the lights unplugged you're screwed.

BTW. are you getting arrested in that pic in your sig?

ha. im sorry i did post the wrong like. but he already explained it. i dunno what i was thinkin about.. but ya do what he says. but u cant just use a resistor u need to use one resistor for the heated part and another smaller resistor and the capacitor for the signal part other wise it wont see fluctuating voltage and it wont do u any good. and im not taking credit for anyones work . im just trying to help some one out unlike u .. its ppl like u that cause problems with your comments all the time.. sounds to me like your just mad cause mommy and daddy wont buy u no more parts for that black car of yours.. grow up my friend.. stop knocking ppl for no reason.

ya im sure my info is wrong considering its been working on my car for months now.. u cant just put a resistor in there and call it done. hows the signal going to fluctuate? if ecu reads one solid signal all the time it will think the sensors broken and still throw a code.

A single resistor will work. the cycling comes from the actual sensor and the ECU's natural cycling of the AFR. The resitor is to make the ECU see a leaner mixture.

The ECU fluctuates the AFR across the switch point of the Front O2 which mind you is .5v. if you watch a datlog of scanned movie of the o2 you will see the cyclic rate of the o2.

the ECU monitors the front o2 and references the rear o2 to search for a leaner condition at rear than up front. The ECU assumes the catalytic is operating as designed.

Now lets go in the opposite direction, when the ECU monitors the front O2 and references the rear to find the o2 is cycling at the same rate but at the same voltage, the ECU draws the conclusion that the cat is not operating.

Now the ECU will also check for o2 heater resistance, if that fail you will also get a code.

your schematic is good but its more work than nec. Basically i dont see where the schematic actually creates a cycle at all. The cycle rate must be relatively slow. The design on that schematic woud not create a cycle for the ECU to understand. Matt and Derek know more than i do on the particulars but i think whoever gave you the schematic blew some smoke up your butt to make things seem more complicated.

that diagram is based on completely removing the rear o2 . not just adding a resistor and still leaving it plugged in. . it cycles by just charging and discharging the capacitor.. it works on my 97 . i get no code at all .. the single resistor mod gave me the code so i had to use this one.

a easy way to turn off the check engine light is to just unplug battery and let it set for about an hour the start her up and the system should be refreshed and it should just go off. at least it worked on my car.

ya . but thats just resetting the ecu. if there is a prob it will come back on after so many miles..
