#90616, "main fuse keeps blowing. car wont work."

well i recently rebuilt the motor on my dads 95 talon esi and it was drivin fine and last night on the highway the main fuse blew. the 30A engine one. so i temporarily stuck a screw in it and it started again after a few tries. but the starter was slugish and didnt sound right.i had to reset ecu to get it to start. so we drove a few blocks and it shut off again.. the screw was still in the fuse hole but now it just wont start. the starter was real slow moving and it was also making weird clicks and junk . my question is where is the common places to check for shorts in the wiring. cause i know the whole engine harness is ok cause i put it all back on myself after the rebuild.. but something keeps blowing the engine fuse.

91 civic hatch, homemade turbo+ LS motor = 12 sec street car.

lol what the hell are you thinking with putting a screw in that fuse... Your lucky the car didnt burn to the ground or the battery didnt explode. You have a short somewhere and with the screw its draining the battery making the starter slow. Start tracing wires. get a multimeter and ground one side of it and probe the contacts on the fuse side and see if you can zero out the resistance. That will tell you if theres a short to ground in those circuits.

Your shit's fucked up now but good.

$5 says the original problem was the wiring running along the right side of the engine is touching the EGR tube, melted, and has shorted out. Remove your intake snorkel and carefully inspect all the wiring within 6" of the EGR tube.

Indeed. You'll be lucky if you have any integrity left in the harness because the entire wire that shorted out has probably melted and fucked up the rest of the harness with it.

Fuses blow for a reason. Can't possibly imagine what that reason could be.

It blew because there wasn't a screw in the fuse holder, silly!

Alright, I can do better.

What in the shit were you thinking? Does a screw look like an electrical implement? Does it look like a fucking fuse?

WHAT THE SHIT!

If fate didn't hate me, your car would have blown into a fucking fireball, plainly visable from my office window.

There. Better?

I think the fuse blew because his BOV wasn't loud enough. Had it been loud enough the fuse would have heard it and been too scared to blow.

I'm just waiting for him to reply, saying that he blew his screw, and that he was going to use an M12X1.5 instead, for greater current handling capability. <cough>

If it can hold my goddamn transaxle to my block, it can damn well carry a 30a current, right? Right?

I'd agree with the suggestion you're probably fuct now. I don't know why you would ever put something other than a slightly stronger fuse in there knowing there was a problem. But anyway I had a problem with my engine fuse blowing awhile back. I went through probably 4 of them in one week then a few more a couple weeks later but the problem eventually fixed itself. Don't know what to tell you now but to replace it with the proper fuse(maybe a few of them if it continues to blow) and pray for the same results I had. Otherwise start pulling the harness. Good luck anyway, Sometimes you have to learn the hard way.

the harness is fine. and so is ecu but the right size fuse keeps blowing. somewhere something has to be grounding . .
