If I am currently using Castrol Syntech, could I switch over to a differnt brand name? This is probably a dum question as I am pretty sure I can just as long as its synthetic right?

You should have no problem just as long as its a synthetic oil.

Spun Bearing is exactly what I am trying to stay away from.

How would I know I have a spun bearing and why?
All I asked is if I can use a different brand name of oil.
