well, call me old, or whatever...but im getting tired of my loud exhaust note. its slightly rapsy...but not too bad, it just the noise that gets annoying. its pretty loud cruizing at 70. just as a disclaimer, i didnt install this muffler, it was on the car when i bought it. its a DTM style.

now i have read about people putting in resonators/glass packs, and i do have a question about that. does everyone just cut out the stock resonator and replace it with the new one?? or do people just add another resonator before the stocker?

i have also heard people getting a cannister muffler and just keeping the silencer in, and not messing with an aftermarket resonator. and that would also be another avenue id look at. im not displeased with the LOOK of my muffler...just the loud sound.

i assume that the resonator would be cheaper (im goin back to school and short on cash). but then again, cannister mufflers can be had for pretty cheap off e-bay.

Try to find a performance chambered muffler. I have a bosal brospeed with a chambered muffler, it sounds deep but not raspy on the highway. What i did back when i had the same problem as you was sold my rear section on ebay then bought a used catback for pretty cheap. You have many options You will just have to pick a path and go with it. You could also try to track down a gst axle back. just some food for thought.

The problem is that "resonance" is a created by the interaction of the cylinders firing and the dyanmics of the chassis of the vehicle when in motion. There is a very specific way in tuning out the drone at cruising speed and is greatly involved. The muffler on your car is a "cookie cutter" design to serve it's purpose, but is based off a broad frequency and has no form of sound suppresion in the cabin... For the time being, since your looking for an inexpensive solution, your best bet would be to go with a GST rear section due to the seperation in the muffler since it was deveoped for our cars on an OEM level.

thanks guys. the cat back exhaust is not really a possibility right now. im going back to school for a long time...and im gonna be strapped for cash. the GST muffler i may go with...its just trying to find one, and one thats decently priced. but right now i guess im looking for a cheap easy quick solution...hence the added resonator. if i had time to search for a GST exhaust or buy a catback..i would. but the reality is, one day when i have the money, it will be replaced (the entire cat back). all i need is a quick method of quieting the exhaust. catback requires too much money, and the GST axlebacks are getting tougher to come by..and id rather be able to walk down to the muffler shop and slap on a resonator for under 40 bux.
