#90421, "Question about EGR"

After rebuilding my motor and dropping it in. I notice that the vacuum line for the EGR broke off. I don't know where the other end starts. But my question is, it is really important to keep the EGR or can I block it off? I drive the car pretty far sometimes. I travel from NY to NJ when I need to. Would the EGR play a big roll when I'm driving that far?

make a blockoff. Stencil the egr gaket on the head, and on the intake, cut and drill. Shouldnt take more than 10min.

the propor resistor to use is a 10watt 100ohm. $1.79 for 2 at radioshack

I think the CEL is more annoying than the damned EGR system. Tell you what, if you block yours off then ship me the bolts so i can put mine back on (i lost the bolts to it).

I'll tell ya what I'm doing to avoid a CEL (we can't have any CEL's in NY to pass inspection)

I made a block off plate using some mild steel a jigsaw and some patience emoji

Then I drilled a hole approximately the same size as the spacer thing in the side of the EGR valve. (I pulled that spacer thing out with a screwdriver)

I inserted a tension pin (also called a roll pin), and to that some vacuum line and a filter at the end that I picked up at home depot.

Now, when the EGR opens, it'll draw fresh air instead of exhaust into the system, and the computer is none the wiser.

I haven't run it yet, so I'm hoping there's no problems. I'll let you guys know in a few weeks.

The resistor mentioned above keeps me from getting any CEL's. The EGR system is 100% gone. I even got rid of the big ass plug by soldering in the resistor and heat shrinking it.
