After 2,000 miles on the rebuilt block, it looks like I'm buring some oil. It started smoking a little bit around 1500 miles. Then yesterday I took the intake off, since I'm in the middle of my turbo installation, and found oil in the intake runners! Now how could this be? My compression is good in all cylinders. Could it be valve guides or seals? There was oil in each one of the intake runners, except the #4 runner which wasn't much.

Sounds like valve seals. Does it always smoke? Or just a big puff after you idle for a minute then hit the throttle? If thats what it does your valve seals are bad.

Well the block was done by VT, bored 20 over w/ CP pistons and whatever rings they use, I think JE. And it smokes while idleing, and when I hit the gas quick after idleing it's a bigger puff of smoke. But I don't think it smokes when cruising.

SOunds like valvetrain. Valve stem seals, perhaps.

Have you checked your IC piping for oil or your return line for kinks?

How long was the head off? If it was too long, that's why the valve stem seals are bad. No oil so they dry rotted.

Well Dino, I'm in the middle of installing my turbo for the first time so that's not it, hehe. And VT had my engine for about three months, the head and block. I don't know how long the head was off but since they had it for three months the head could have been off for a while.

50 miles on the new engine and mine does a small bit of smoke at idle on startup, just a puff now and then. After engine is warm no smoke at all. My new head was here for months and I had no oil in it or on it *shrug*. I had my mechanic test it a week before I put it on and he gave it the gold star award. Seems to be working ok. I was unaware that you needed to have them oiled while it was just sitting there.

It's fine if it is just sitting there and no oil has ever touched them. But if they've been in some oil and you take it away, then they will dry rot.

What about your PCV valve? Having oil in the intake runners makes me suspect that you aren't necessarily having valvetrain problems.

Try the $1.25 fix before the $500 fix.

hows your vacuum? If your needle shakes a lot in idel its probably your valve seals. Mine was like that after I put my head back in after rebuild because I didn't change the seals and I sprayed all this crap on my head. If it burns during idle its most likely valve seals or guides.

It can also be PCV since you got oil in your runners. That or the EGR is sucking it up into the intake manifold.

my engine burns oil and it sux it won't even pass a smog check but my problem is rings/pistons
