On April 18th, I went to AUTOZONE to get my car hooked up to their computer to find out why my 'Check Engine' light has been on and won't go away.
So they give me these slips of paper that say:
P0442 - EVAP small leak detected and P0455 - Leak in EVAP system detected
On that day also, I changed the oil and got a new oil filter and I changed the spark plugs and spark plug wires.
And, my car startin running a little better...since then, my car has been running fine. No sputtering like before.
So- Friday (May 20th) I'm about to go from Charleston, S.C. to Charlotte, N.C. and my car at 90mph (with the flow of traffic) decides that it wants to stall on me. So, the check engine light comes on and starts blinking and the oil light comes on and before i could get my car to a complete stop on the side of the road- it shakes real bad under 2 rpms and then stalls. Then I see white smoke. So I lift my hood and there's white smoke coming from the dipstick and when i remove the oil cap from the head - there's white smoke coming from there.
So i'm thinking ''ok i blew my head'' and i'm freaking out.
These two redneck guys stopped to help and said I'd be able to drive my car back home and then I'd need to park it- but to "watch my gauges and don't let my car get hot, and cylinder #1 is bad- so you're running on 3 cylinders and you can't be driving your car fast. At the max- 70mph"
So i'm driving home...and everytime I go to shift gears - my oil light flashes on, and goes away after I shift. So i'm like "wtf is going on?" and I make it home and pull into my driveway- I had to go slow b/c my car is lowered...so I noticed that at idling speed (1rpm) my car shakes REAL bad. The whole damn car shakes! So I got a friend to check out my car- and he was saying that "you have a misfire somewhere. you need to call a car dealership and ask them about your codes"
So- I call Charleston Mitsubishi today (May 24th) and they tell me they don't know what parts or what I need (in refernce to the codes) to do to fix my car and I have to come in for a DIAGNOSIS which is like $75 or less...
I just am SO tired of putting an @$$ of money into my car and it's not getting fixed.
When I got the full clutch assy done to my car - there were problems. When I got my power steering belt changed- there were problems. When I do anything...there are problems.
I'm thinking of fixing whatever is wrong now, and selling my damn car.

from personal experience, the check engine light blinking is something serius. all that smoke is more than just a misfire. to check your codes do the key dance and reference back to the list of code definitions in the info/specs section of this site.
the evap code should not be at all related to the simptoms you have described. check the codes (search key dance) and then let us know what they are. From all that white smoke, sounds like you are burning coolant.

sounds to me like the head gasket went out on you, cylinder probably filled with water and bent a rod, thus the shaking at low RPM's. the only way to know for sure, though, would be to tear it down and actually look. Although, You could pull the spark plugs, and crank the ignition, and see if it looks like old failthful under the hood. Anyway, why not just rebuild the engine and go all out with good internals and a turbo, sounds like the perfect time to make some changes for the better to it.
the first solution that comes to mind for any new problem with my car usually involves a can of gas and a match....

StrtrcrQTinSC , Hey im in columbia, not to far from ya. sucks to hear that happened man, once you get up and running you oughta hit me up, would love to meet someone from south carolina thats into the 2gnt other than the "OMFG 2fast 2bi-curious" kids around here.
sounds like time for a rebuild; make sure you have em check all the bearings see as how you had oil light come on and you had to drive home on it. hate to see you rebuild only for your car to eat another bearing.
just for kicks i was told yesterday that i oughta get the J-spec jap engine, when i said WTF are you talking about? he said just like the one i have in mine; he lifted his hood and i said "RICER same engine as me"
RICER: no its not; its from japan the guy on ebay told me it was Me: WOW!!!!

Check your oil level and color, and also your coolant level and color, to be sure none are mixing with eachother. Do a compression test, and also take a good look at your spark plugs, as those can tell alot of whats going on. Oil light on the dash coming on isn't good, usually means oil pressure is VERY low(although if the motor is barely running, then a really low rpm(below idle speed), can also make that light quickly come on and go out).

well thats cool, ill look you up on aim sometime, if i were you id go for performance motor build instead of buying used, but since your just selling , i guess go ahead and get it on the road.
i would be leary of that AWD-Turbo-Etc... Conversion. If you do a quick search im sure you'll see that many a person has been shot down/flamed pretty quickly for asking how to or if it can be done. just do a search and you'll see why id be leary of that 1000$ conversion.
