#89678, "if a rod bearing spun whats the chance of other things breaking?"

well my dad has an automatic talon esi ( 420a motor) . its has been makin a knock under accerleration for a while now and yesterday it got real bad. so i took the motor out and took it apart and i find the rod bearing on cyl #1 has spun underneath the other bearing and grinded down to almost nothin. the other ones were all fine though. but i bought a new set of rod bearings for all the rods anyway. i looked at the rest of the internals and it all looks ok but i dont wanna just fix this bearing set and find somthing else goes bad later. so is there anything else that could be bad from this? the crank and actual rod looks ok. its not even grooved at all.
and rod isnt bent or nothing.. anything else i should check while im at it?

You should prolly replace the rod that had the spun bearing. I would be wary of the #1 rod journal even though it may look fine.

rod would have anything to do with it. since the rod oil journal is on the crank. check clearances, and aybe check the rod for out of round condition, with extra heat from the bearing spunning.

if a rod bearing is spun good enough, you can lose a bearin cap and and even fling a rod through the block in worst cases.

just rebuild it, and make sure all your clearances are right on and it'll run like a champ

it seems like it takes a lot to really fuck up our engines. but seriously, stop driving it if its knocking hard.
