#88352, "The Authoritative Post on Ignition? Mild Exhaust mods?"
I spent quite a bit of time last night browsing over the searched posts on plugs/wires/coil/ground wires and the like. There is some useful info, but it is scattered, and does not fully answer my questions:
Plugs: hot/cold, what brands, wtf!
Wires: when is too much not actually helping anymore?
coil: what brands, when (at how many miles) do you KNOW it is off w/o use of a multimeter, how does downstream (plugs/wires) affect what coil you have
exhaust: is a coil/wire/plug/intake enough to warrant a cat-back, or even headers/high flow cat? If not for the 2.5 inch straight cat-backs, how about the 2.25 inch not-straight magnaflow?
Overall, there is not a lot of "context" in the answers that exist. I.E. some people race/drive real hard, and regularly keep their cars in the high RPM range, and others want more bottom-end/mid-range and anything that sacrifices this for top-end is useless. I KNOW this affects exhaust choice, but does it affect ignition? What set ups are best for mid-range power, and what is good more for high-end (read: extraneous for people who don't like to rev up past 4k, on a daily basis)
I was hoping we could get some definite answers and explanations in one post, helping newbs like me and condensing some of the knowledge out there in the forum

Ngk plugs are the best imo, you can get the perfect gapped plug for boosted or non boosted apps. Ngk bk7e-11's are for the boosted plug. And I believe the ngk bk5e's are the range hotter.
Coil packs aren't going to do shit, our ignition rocks and can hold ~15lbs of boost no problem. But if it go's out grab a msd.
Get 10mm wires just to have them, I had 8mm then switched to nology hot wires and no real difference.
Catbacks are good for about 5whp and are a supporting mod for any other mod that you might be looking at.
Start saving for a turbo kit, its the only true worthwhile mod... It seams like your trying to do too much with nothing.

I am running the colder version of those gapped at .032 but that is because I am turbo, you don't need to get the iridium(IX) ones really... just the regualar ngk's 1 range hotter should suffice, and I am not sure about what gap to run nonturbo... I forget. I thought it was .055 but it could be .045 as far as I know
