#88220, "So what can I use instead of anaerobic sealant?"

I have searched everywhere in this crap hole of a town, even the dealerships. I need some tonite, so if anybody knows what I can use to substitute the Loctite 581 or the Permatex PT5187, please feel free to let me know, lol.

Thanx

I just want to know, did you acctually look on the shelves or just ask the monkeys where it was? I only ask because nobody knew what I was talking about but when I went to the shelves it was there. You may want to try non chain stores, they seem to be more likely to carry the pro stuff. Most peps going to autozone don't do the type of work that requires the special sealents and what not...

Its Loctite 518 or Permatex "Anaerobic Gasket maker" part number 518, 6ml. (Not 581, or 5186)

You can't substitute anything for it, you gotta use anaerobic sealant of some kind.

That's what we use in az2gnt. Runs about $15 at Napa. They always seem to have a tube or two on the shelf. You have to look for it, like was said above. I've never found anyone at any parts house who knows what it is.

Yeah no parts guy has any idea what it is.

I've had some luck walking right past the parts counter to the service bays of GM, Toyota, and Ford dealerships and begging a small 3ml tube off the mechanics. Usually they'll trade a $20 for it.

If you live in a non-english speaking state like Kalifornia... have a picture of the tube on hand to show them. Along with the $20.

print out some tits, find the tube, tape the tits on it, put it back, walk out of the store, find it again... emoji
