As of right now, all those companies use either a Sachs or Luk pressure plate and flywheel. They make them better by using several things: - a "puck" style disk, instead of a full friction disk. This helps holding ability because you now have a smaller frictional surface area while the pressure plate clamp load remains the same. Basically you have more claming force on the disk, in laymens terms. - a lining that has a greater coefficient of friction- ceramic is commonly used..holds well to heat, and wears very little. It will actually wear into the flywheel faster than the pucks.. - increase the clamp load of the pressure plate(changing the fulcrum point, heat treating the springs, ect..) CM, Spec, and SB all do this, some more than others)

The only two for our cars are Luk and Sachs. The Luk were built for most non modular setups, but were sometimes used on modular..havent seen many at all though..Most of our cars comes with the Sachs PP and fly, rivited together. The actual physical look from the Luk and Sachs PP's are fairly different, when held side by side. The Sachs PP is "thicker" than the Luk. But the Luk flywheel is thicker than the Sachs flywheel. Regardless a Luk PP has to mate with a Luk fly, and vice versa. From all the pics i've seen, CM uses Luk PP's and flys, and Spec uses Sachs PP and flys..It's interesting to note that only the Luk clutches were made in the NON modular form. Sachs never made a non mod clutch. I currently use a Luk PP, custom 5 puck ceramic disk, and a Luk modular flywhee, all bolted together. 15 psi or approx 300CHP seems to be the limit on a stock Pressure plate clamp load.
4) what does the "load pressure" mean? ie: 2200, 2600, 2900 lbs? is that how much force is applied to the disc when the pedal is pushed in? if, so lesser pressure would mean easier slipage?
Basically yes. Clamp load is how much the PP is forcing the disk to the flywheel. Higher clamp load means more torque holding capacity..with a drawback of a harder clutch pedal(sometimes).

As of now, thats all there is available(except the CM twin disk custom setup). All these companies do is rework the Luk or Sachs stock pressure plate for more clamp load. They change the fulcrum point(a pressure plate is just a spring loaded lever), and some heat treat the "fingers" for more spring tension. Combine this added clamp load with a "puck" style clutch, wich ceramic/feramic/carbon, ect linings, and you have a "performance clutch" capable of holding much more power over stock.
I have heard a lot of good things and not many bad things about thier clutches, so i went with them. but when i got my clutch, i was looking at it and it just seemed somehow "cheap" looking, like a chinese knock-off or something. (keep in mind i dont know a lot about clutches, so its not an accurate observation) and the only hting i have to compare it to is my spec stage 3... Both the disc and the PP on the southbend are Sachs, and the PP is 2200lbs according to a guy at southbend.... what am i payin so much for? what makes it (or any other) a "high perf" unit? is it all in the disc linings? thanks
Well looks like SB uses Sachs pressure plates and flys(prob because these are much easier to find and are plentiful)..They reworked the PP for more clampload, which I don't know how much time or machine work is involved in that process, but that is much of the cost right there. Just for info, the stock pressure plate( Luk or Sachs) are approx rated at 1000-1100 lbs. 13.5 @108 MPH-2.2 60ft(stupid FWD!)
