#85784, "Rebuild PROBLEMS ... HELP !!!!"

okay got everything together and everything and today i got to start it up...
it starts and runs for like 20 seconds and then dies out...
i THINK its fuel related here because my fuel pressure gauge (which is mechanical and goes to the end of the fuel rail) is reading like 42psi...

im using 440cc injectors and the FMU with the 4:1 disk in it.

anyone have any input on this or anything of what to look for or to fix? i obviously cant adjust the fuel pressure since im only using the fmu....but i think 42psi fuel press is high enough to kill the engine correct??
PLEASE HELP FELLA'S!

nooo, just last spring before i pulled the motor out, i used to have the clutch all the way down before it would start. if i didnt have the clutch down, it would just crank and not start, and now it just starts. so ha! lol....

dino, i thought i read somewhere awhile ago that you were using 440's and the 4:1 disk in the fmu too....
what did you use to turn down your idle fp? an s-afc???

i have an afc but its not hooked up yet...

Well let's see here 42psi base pressure is perfect for STOCK injectors. But with 440's it floods the engine like it is doing now. I KNOW you knew that to run 440's you would have to have a device of some mechanical or electronic means to control the idle, right? As for the button start, it won't need the clutch down cause you have it hard wired. The clutch needing to be in is a function of the car STOCK, so if you run wires to bypass it all then it is no longer needed. i do not have a push button though so that last part could be wrong but i'm 99% sure that is what you wree saying...

To help you understand why you car starts up without the clutch (lol)... you only have the actual ignition startup wire hooked up to the button. By doing this, you bypass the the ignition harness which includes the wire that lets the car know the clutch is not in and to not start. I'm not sure exactly, but common sense tells me that the only reason you need that "feature" is in precaution of stupid people not remembering they are in gear when they start the car.

and just for the record you drippy dick, i post a lot of tranny issues because I HAVE SEARCHED and came up empty handed! you might wanna try that regarding ANYTHING fuel related, cause i promise you, better people have asked the same thing long before you got your learners permit! Of course, as many times as you ask stupid questions on a seemingly daily basis, i guess it is rather optimistic of me to think that you could figure out a SEARCH function...

I have come to a conclusion that I owe EVERYONE a MAJOR apology for the way i have talked and come across in the thread. so to all: I AM SORRY FOR THE WAY I ACTED AND FOR THE THINGS I SAID, I MEANT NONE OF THEM TRULY. It was just that when you do a rebuild or something big liek this and start it for the first time, your hoping to be like, oh snap, sweet, everything is working right...
INSTEAD, i was like, oh snap, something got fucked up.
although i pretty sure its my fuel press is too high, and i went out and got a new sfmu today to help fix this, it really sucked. you get your hopes up on something and it all falls down to the floor. im sure most of you know how this is, so PLEASE accept my apology, especially good ol' timmy. tim, you know your shit and i give you props. i promise to start searching MORE than what i have before i post questions. i thank you for your time and hope you accept my apology, but for now, i have a sfmu to install emoji

again, sorry to all, and tim, good luck with your wife and new born baby to be emoji emoji emoji emoji

hey at least he apologized and got the thread back on track...

btw about the clutch thing - yea it's b/c you bypassed the ignition harness and clutch sensor. a lot of people actually disable that feature on purpose. there's a wire on the clutch pedal that senses when the clutch if fully pressed. if you disconnect it, it basically shows that the clutch is pressed down ALL the time. from there you just make sure you're in neutral and that there's no small children or animals in front of you if you happen to be in gear by mistake.

i guess it's not something you think about after awhile but for me it's SOOO much more convenient being able to start the car without having to push in the clutch.

you know what, i noticed something else that was odd when i starter it up...

after the third time of it running for 20 seconds, it was knocking a little bit?
i KNOW it cant be from the rods, they are brand new along with the bearings and shit. everything was in factory specs too on the crank?
maybe a lifter or something? any ideas on that shit fella's!?

What kind of oil pressure do you have?

Did you prime the lash adjusters before you put it back together?

Also did you put the head gasket on the right way? If the gasket is on wrong the head will not get oil.

ya im 99.9% sure the HG was on right. when i put the head on, i poured a cup of oil over the cams and shit,. and before i started it, i primed it by cranking it for like 30 seconds before the first start. as for my oil press, not sure, my gauge read zero! but there was oil in my feedline. hopefulyl there is a kink or someting in the oil pressure hose leading to the gauge....

piston slap will occur until the pistons expand right? since forge pistons do expand a little bit correct

First thing I would do is to make sur that you are getting good oil pressure. If your are not, it will only take a minute to fry the bearings.

As for the pistons making noise. I have never heared my pistons on my Eclipse or any other cars that have had with forged pistons. They may make a little noise until it warms up, but it will not be noticeable especeally if you have a loud exhaust. But like I said, I have never heared them make any noise before.

Definetelly check you oil pressure. If your not getting pressure, you may have already spun a bearing. Hopefully that is not the case.
