#85618, "weird idle question"
Feb-05-05 01:03 PM by turbo8u

this morning i was leaving my house (motor cold) and my idle vac was good right arounf -17-20hg on my boost gauge. the idle started to change though and vac started to go down (closer to 0) i noticed an audible change in the exhaust note and so i tapped the gas and it went back to normal vac and stayed there...its like a selective leak or something i dont get it, somebody enlighten me

edit: ive been getting a random 32 code every once and awile (EGR related)...could a stuck open EGR at idle cause this condition and thuis when i rev it and it closes be why it fixes itself?

Did your car start to idle high? If you're getting the code and its idling higher, it could be the EGR valve staying open, causing exhaust air to flow into the intake manifold and causing vacuum to decrease and the engine speed to rise.

well when the motor is cold it naturally idles a little higher and once warm kicks it around 750-890 idle rpm. the weird thing was, when my idle started to act up...the idle rpm's got lower...

EGR could do it. Normal Vac leaks raise your idle but EGR can cause your idle to drop due to hot exhaust gas. I would start with the EGR code turby, maybe block it off for testing purposes. Clean out the PCV, that can do it also.

When the Vac drops does it bounce at all? That may indicate a sticking valve.
