I started my car and my oil pressure guage was showing 100 psi. After a 2 min idle is flickered to 0 and back to 100. After driving the guage showed 100 psi and at idle 75. If i idled more then a min it would flicker to 0. I checked all my wiring and this is my second pressure sender. The sender is only a month old. It is an autometer ultra lite. Did anyone ever experience this problem ? the only thing i could come up with is a bad sender or relief valve ? can our cars produce the amount of pressure ? is this accuate or a bad guage ? thank for any help

Are you sure the plastic washer is still on the sender, so when you put the signal wire on theres that plastic washer between the sender and the signal wire? If its not there, then that will happen. Your grounding out the signal wire. Check it out, that might all thats wrong.

Those pressures are incorrect. Recheck the connection. With my car warmed up, idle pressure is about 25-27 psi, and under load it's about 60-65 psi.

I know they are in incorrect. The guage maxes out at 2k with 100 psi. My question is, can it be possible that the relief valve is stuck closed ? I will check the back of the sender unit like above cause it sounds like a good idea. Im not hopping its not a motor issue. Anyone else have any input ?

It sounds like the guage is shorting to ground to me also. But it could be that the guage is defective. I have had two oil pressure gauges go bad. I bought a cheap mechanical pressure guage and hooked it up to rule out the oil pump. One of the gauges that went bad would start out ready fine then after a while it would start bouncing back and forth.
