i fabricated this awhile ago but i got my camera stolen so i had to use a cheap little webcam, anyway...this fuckin thing rocks, top end is so opened up. low end leave it closed because of needed backpressure. its hooked up on both a full boost activated switch and a toggle switch in the cab. its insanely loud and i love making ricers cry with it

i routed some more piping onto the dump with some oval tubing and a stainless slash tip to dump out the drivers door

good mod you dont have to leave it open all the time either

it replaces the stock cat location and its very very easily bolted on in 10 mins, only two wires too...power and ground , for us simpletans

just curious why you would want a bypass for the entire exhaust system? do you mean that it just releases the exhaust under the egine?
just lets it flow easier, not backing up with pressure or what?

It eliminates the exhaust backpressure at high rpm so the turbo will spool like a mofugga. On non turbo cars the exhaust back pressure is needed for torque. On turbo cars back pressure is needed for power before the turbo spools, and once the turbo spools backpressure is the enemy preventing the turbo from spooling to its maximum potential.

the performance end of it allows exhaust to bypass the muffler which is restrictive, thus giving you better flow and better acceleration in the top end. it does need to stay closed in the lower rpms or you'll have no torque, this is why he was saying to hook it up to a boost activated pressure switch and/or a toggle in the cab. this can be used with or without turbo. and best of all...the "oh shit" expressions you will see from the poor bastard sittin' next to ya will definitely feed the ego a bit, thumbs!!! chris

I want. I need. Turby, how long have you been running this setup and how many times have you activeated the qtec? I am just curious as to the longetivity of the qtec's electronics.

Okay, so if I were to buy one of these little bad ass QTEC's, I would want to buy the 2.25" right? or 2.5"? I'll have the Star kit when I install this toy. What would it be? And also, would it go lean? The O2 is before the QTEC right, so would it have something to do with the exhaust flow or something to that effect? I'm just guessing, I wouldn't think that it would make it run lean, but then again, that's just me, I'm just as curious since you think you heard it somewhere.

there are 2 o2 sensors, the header one, which is the one that measures air/fuel ratios, then the one after the cat which is a "dead" sensor, its just there to see how the cat is doing. that one just turns on your CEL. so, no your air fuel would not be messed up, you will just run faster.
P.S. i think you can take out the header o2 sensor and put a bolt in the opening and have the sensor hang there if you want your car to run richer (i heard that somewhere, im not sure if its true)

its a retarted question, i was thinking more of abrubt exhaust change causing problems. I didnt know why and thought I read about it somewhere. But it just doesnt make sence that it would.

Yeah, I thought it would have something to do with the flow of the exhaust, cuz I and a lot of us here don't even have the rear O2. I could see the rear O2 somewhat affecting it going rich or lean like ^ said, but not enough to make a major problem. And uh, I don't tink I'll be taking out my only other O2 sensor, you can try it and tell us what happens if you want though richlo65. It would probably just put a crap load of fuel and flood wouldn't it?

Gah... I'm having an aneurysm here.

First and foremost, "backpressure" does not mean shit. An engine doesn't need backpressure to make torque, otherwise, we would cap the header or turbo, and make an infinite amount of torque.

What we do need in order to make power, is exhaust gas velocity. There are a lot of principles involved, but none of them include backpressure. Do a search here, a lot has been posted about this by myself and others.

Secondly, the downstream O2 sensor is in back. It is down the exhaust stream, relative to the upstream O2 sensor, which lives in front. Let's use the same terms to describe the same things, and this will make more sense for everybody.

It's just like mine turby but I had mine first. And I put the stock exhaust back on so my GS could soundly sleep.

Amen to that, I want to put a stock gst exhaust on mine so I don't have to listen to "bwaaaa bwaaaaa" all the time. I just havn't found a nice sounding exhaust yet. Major headache.
