#84383, "Automatic to 5-Speed Transmission Conversion???"

I just bought an automatic 95' eclipse GS (I was looking for a newer 5 speed GST or GSX but saw this one and its super clean so I jumped on the opportunity). I heard from dealer that some people do conversions from automatic to a 5 speed but they weren't quite sure on the specifics. Has anyone done this or knows anyone who has? Are you happy with the results and is there anything that I should know or keep in mind in attempting this. I have to replace the transmission seal so I figured since I'm doing all that work to get it out, why not go the extra few yards and make the car into something that I can enjoy a little more. If anyone could give me some specifics to a conversion like this I would greatly appriciate it because as much as i've looked, not many places gave me any advice worth my time.Thanks.

for starters you could check out the transmission and the search function.

Next-> Yes the swap is possible. I already bought the big parts for my swap. I should be doing mine this spring/summer.

There are a number of old topics on this if you look around

I did it and its not really that bad. You just have to get everything, thats really the hard part. The rest is just bolting it up. You do need to get a manual ECU and depending on what year you have, it has to be specific, like mine. Thats what I was told. The only bitch installing, to me, was the slave cylinder. If you have anyother questions, you can email me or something.

Good luck

I thought the hardest part was the master cyl.
Yes it can be done, the hard part to obtain would be the 95 MT ecu, as they diff (well the connector). Everything else is bolt up. I am working on finishing up the newer write up, but since there is no longer a gap between classes and fluid power kicking my ass, I cant find time lately.

If your local I will gladly give you a hand.

If you mean the ATX TCU, You just solved a big headache and mystery for me! How will the TCU keep the speedo from working? More specifics please. I did the swap and mine isn't working. I just hacked off the connector on the 5-sp wiring harness and grafted it into the auto harness.

If the auto TCU thats under your console is still plugged in, your speedo wont work, I learned that the hardway aswell. Now with you hacking the auto harness into the ECU, I couldnt say what you did. All I did was put a manual ECU in and then made my own speed sensor harness and soldered that to the correct pins on the ECU.

That's exactly what I did. I patched into the yellow wire and the black and green wire that runs between the sensors and ran a the yellow and white wire to the ECU. I was about to go purchase another speed sensor to see it that was the problem. I'll unplug the TCU and see what happens.
