I just bought a 98 Eclipse RS on which the engine had siezed up. I am debating if I should fix it or not. I am in the process of pulling the head and the oil pan off. The problem is that the car has been sitting in the cold damp weather and alot of the bolts seem to be rusty. Would it be worth fixing the bottom end or should I buy another bottom end. IF this is going to be too much work I am going to keep the interior and Part out the rest. Also If I have to remove the block Do I have to be able to turn the crank to get the bolts out of the flywheel? and where is the Tranny inspection cover? Any assistance you can give would be greatly appreciated.

is it seized up because its been sitting there a while (rust lock) or did someone forget to put oil in the engine and really lock it up for good? if its just rust, i know several people who just take off the head, spray some B12 or other rust remover in the cyl walls, and go to turning on the crank pulley untill everything starts moving again. but depending on the condition of the engine...you may just get the bottom end rebuilt/buy another one, or just part the car out. all depends on what you wanna do

Take out all your spark plugs spray wd40 in the cylinders and wait 24 hours or so and then try to turn the crank. This worked for me on an old engine and should work on any. You shouldnt have to disassemble it unless you fucked it up good .
PS:you might want to take out the o2 sensors if u spray a shit load of wd40 .

to get to the flywheel you'll need to remove the bellhousing from the motor. from there, there are 4 bolts holing the clutch and pressure plate in. Then, the flywheel is staring you in the face .
EDIT: also, when you goto take the bolts out of the bellhousing, you have to remove the slave cylinder ....

Well, I just bought this as a second car. THe guy hit something and busted a hole in the oil pan and kept driving it. Eventully the engine siezed. I saw it sitting on the street with a for sale sign on it and bought it for $550. Now I deciding weather to part it out or rebuild it. I have already swapped radiators with the one in my other eclipse. How much should It cost to do a stock rebuild. I just want this car to do some local driving.

ahhho, well, you can get the stock rebuild kit from howell for under 400 bones, but im not sure how much the block is gonna need to be machined. depends on how scored the cyl walls got. i know you can get .20 or .40 over with the kit.
