#83452, "Another my car won't start - plus bonus rant against the ECU"

So if the car won't start, then there is something wrong. However, the ECU won't give me a CEL and it's ticking me off. Aren't these computers supposed to help you figure out whats wrong?

So here's a quick run down. First snow we had two weeks ago, the car started idling like crap - idling fine, but slowly dropping in rpms till it idled rough, then went back up again, and then slowly went back down, etc. This last week, it's been stumbling over itself anywhere betwen idle and 3k, but only when in gear. It's happy if its in park. I also started to notice a fuel smell, so I wonder if it's running pig rich for some unknown reason.

So any ideas? It turns over happy as can be, just won't start. It "coughs" every now and then, but that's it. Opening the hood, I still smell gas. I wonder if it is flooded, so I'm going to let it sit for a while before I try it again.

have the codes pulled, just cause the light isnt on doesnt mean there isnt a CEL code.

and its either a vacuum leak (maybe EGR related), bad IAC motor, coolant temp sensor or o2 sensor or fried ECU

Is there anyway to test any of those electrical compenents using a meter or putting 12V to them and seeing what they do?

I had a similar problem few weeks back. It turned out it was the ECU. The best thing to do is get someone that has an eclipse or avenger and start swapping. Same year, then check the ECU. Go to autozone and get your car scanned first.

Been trying that and there either is no one who wants to help or I have the only 95 in a 100 mile radius.

The coolant temp sensor works badsed on resistance. Check its resistance both with the motor cold, and with the motor hot. Should be around 8-900 ohm hot, 9-11K ohm cold.

COuld also be an O2 sensor... but that would certainly throw a CEL.
