#83395, "420a Can you run 8:1 compression without a turbo?"

I plan on getting a turbo kit and was wondering if it is possible to run this low compression without a turbo?

I am rebuilding my 420a. I have 8:1 turbo compression JE pistons with +.20 over bore, Eagle rods, High flow fuel rail, Venom intake manifold, 255lph Walbro fuel pump, Fuel pressure regulator, Adjustable cam gears, new oil and water pump and the Apexi SAFC-II.

I'm having the head ported and polished and valves grinded with all new seals and springs and the CraneCam turbo profile camshafts also.

I also need help deciding what size injectors to run.

You sure can....just expect a lil power loss before you get turbo...honestly though why not go with higher comp like 8.8:1 that will be more like stock and you can also turbo quite nicely on pump..will actualy spool your turbo faster emoji

keep in mind while nonturbo, you dont need any fuel mods(i wouldent mod is what i mean)...then get turbo kit and slap on all the stuff you got

oH and make SURE you break in your engine properly...you will regret it if you dont...never on synth for the first 2k miles...change oil right after...check filter for anny bad signs...

really if u watch what ur doing and wait a lil while.. learn all you can. Then i suggest going like 9.1:1 or even closer to stock. Specially if u will be running a hahn turbo with the extra large housing= turbo lag. There are many benefits to higher than 8.1:1 compression turbo. Better gas mileage and better efficiancy from the turbo, faster spool times. I would recommend reading up about it if ur really planing on staying NA for a while before turbo. Im at somewhere between 9.2:1 and 9.6:1, and really i didn't notice any power loss. Very torquey also.

You could run 8:1, but why? Do you plan to run mad boost after the rebuild?

Set your ebrake and drive around. That's what it's like driving on 8:1 with no turbo.

you wouldnt require such a high amount of boost if the compresion was considerably higher since more power is gunna be had.

Actually I double checked and I have the 8.8:1 compression pistons +.20 over. I know it would be better to wait on the turbo kit before driving it, I just miss her soooooo much emoji

Yea man, you'll be alright. I'm driving around right now w/o a turbo on 8.8:1. I hardly noticed any power loss.

I will be running the Hahn Super 20g. Does anybody else have a similar setup that could possibly give me any pointers for this setup? Thanks

grain and etx are running larger turbo setups. Try talking to them.
