#83292, "fidanza short throw shifter???"

Ok well i've spent the last 30 minutes going thru various search results with no luck. I know B&M makes one also but i was hoping someone here has tried the Fidanza shifter and could give some kind of review of it, maybe including a picture. Is it shorter than stock?, if so by how much. How does it feel compared to stock? and can we use our stock shift knob?? Im asking because it goes for about $80 less than a B&M and fidanza is known for good parts (compared to no-name brands on e-bay) TIA!

DONT EVEN BOTHER! unless your a "brand name" whore, just get one of the B&M knock-offs from ebay for $30.00-$40.00. there is NO usefull difference other than an extra $100.00 for a name.

well tim the fidanza is only like $80. i wanted to ask you if you could use the stock shift knob with the e-bay knock-off or is it smaller or larger if ya can't. Through searching i have not found enough good information to make a decision. Is the ebay shifter a lil shorter than the stock one??

well, 80.00 is still 40.00 more than 40.00! emoji however, not knowing about the fidenza in particular, i cant say for certain thats its the exact tsame thing as the others, but i cant imagine it not being the same... how many ways can you build a short throw for an eclipse.
about the only thing that could be diffrent is the throw shortening percent: 35% and 50% for B&M and my faker B&M.

im not sure about using the stock knob or not, i haven't had one in so long... my shifter from ebay came with a knob.

the ebay knock-off shifter is NOT shorter in height sadly, only in throw travel. (as are all "short throw shifter") thats done by moving the pivot point higher. i think its the same height as the stocker. i am looking into having mine machined down a little bit though.

look on ebay for "short shifter eclipse" and see what comes up. you'll get "all" makes and can compare from there.

well i've been looking for quite a while on e-bay, i see the crappy ass OBX ones emoji and the knock-off e-bay which according to the picture looks just like the B&M one. My 2 things that i want is to retain the use of my stock shift knob and reduce the height of the shifter by 1.5 to 2 inches. Also i would prefer not to pay $100+ for a silly shifter.

never heard of a fake B&M shifter before. links?
Also has anyone tried the Hurst short throw shifter from Howell's site?

I have the B&M in my other car. its great, especially with the symborski kit, but i dont feel like paying that price again for another one. I do have a shortened stock one i plan on using for now though.

thats the one i bought. i even used the instructions for the B&M one. exatcly the same, except 100.00+ less money!

you wont find a short throw shiter thats not close to stock length. people confuse short throw shifter with shortened shifter, which is the stock one thats been cut down.

i cant find any info on the fidenza shifter at all, so... if your looking for a shortened shifter that has a short travel, you need to buy the one in the link and machine it.

well the weird thing is when you go thru some of the archives about the b&m some people say it shortened the actual height by about 1.5 inches and some people say it was stock height. Maybe there was more than one design. But as for the fidanza looks like no-one has bought one yet?!?!

thats where peeps get confused... using words like "thorw", "travel", "shortened" to describe these shifters. so here it is, the definitive definitions:

"Short shifter" and "short throw shifter" - refers to the travel distance required to engage or disengage a gear by moving the pivot point of the shifter up.

"shortENED shifter" - is the shifter ABOVE the stock pivot point thats been cut down.

anyway, its all based on the physics of a pivot point. its kinda confusing because even a shortENED shifter has a decreased shift travel, but not nearly as much. so...

just get the fake B&M, you'll be happy with it.

well thanks tim i do understand the whole concept about "short throw" and "shortned shift". THink this will be helpful in the archives. Now im contemplating if i do get the knock-off. How i could get my stock shift knob to still work. I have searched every forum and googled until im blue in the face with no availe(sp?) to find information about the Fidanza. I don't want to spend my money on an unproven part. Hell i can't even find a picture of it! If the thread on the e-bay one is larger than stock you could easily rethread the stock shift knob and there you go. If it's smaller then it gets a lil tricky.

My B&M shifter has a shorter height than the stock shifter.. You can choose how short the throw is with the B&M unit, and IIRC the mounting points for the pivot are higher or lower based on how much you shorten the throw. I know mine does not sit as high because the size of the units were different and my shift boot is more crunched up than it was stock. Are you guy's at stock height reducing the throw by 35% or 50%??
