#82932, "Which type of sealants for rebuild?"

I'm replacing my HG and one piston. Also putting in ARP studs in. I know to get some RTV sealant for the valve cover, oil pan and some sort of anaerobic sealant for the cam caps.

http://www.permatex.com/auto/autouh.asp

Which color RTV and the anaerobic sealant on this page??

Thanks
Alvin

general anaerobic sealer for bedplate to block is all you need. There aint a whole lot of variations of "without oxygen"... (thats what anaerobic means.. emoji )

Copper gasket (spray or tube) sealer for exhaust stuff and good'ol black RTV for just about everything else.

USED TO HAVE...Everything you wish you had, and then some...

There is specific sealant for the Bedplate on these engines and others like it that chrysler uses. Your part number is 4773257 and it can of course be found at the dealership.

While the Mopar 4773257 anaerobic sealant (GREEN in color) is definitely the correct sealant, it costs over $30 at the dealership, can ONLY be found at the dealership, and is NEVER in stock. It has to be special ordered with lead times of a week or more.

Most everyone just goes generic and gets an $11 tube of Loctite 518 which is mentioned in the overhaul manual as a replacement for Mopar 4773257. I don't know anyone who has had a leak as a result of using the red anaerobic instead of the green Mopar stuff.
