#82687, "a hand full of ?'s"

Ok first of hello to everyone i love the site.

I just got a 97 eclipse rs. When i first got it it wouldn't want to idle when it was cold and it seemed like it was running rich all the time. It never like driving in the 2000 rpm range for a amount of time. also it had a the headgasket leak and a hand full of other ones. so after a wekk of having the car i pulled the motor and bought a complete set of gaskets for everything. Well now its all back together and a few new problems started. When it first started it ran like it was fouled but that cleared up now if i let it idle for more then like 5 mins it loads up to the point of stalling and dies. so now i need to know how to get this thing to run right. I have weird idle and poor throttle response.

check these in order:

1) ignition (plugs/wires/coil)
2) fuel (filter/ingectors/pump/etc)
3) air (self explanitory).

there could be a sensor problem as well, but ill leave that up to other people, lol.

:shhh: i do cocaine :/shhh:

O2 sensor, or a MAP sensor problem. Check the codes and see what the ECU says is wrong. That's always a good place to start.

the timing is good when i put the belt back on i double checked the marks. befor the i did the gaskets i have gotten a missfire code and also at idle the map sensor was only saying 12in HG and alldata is telling me there should be 18in HG. also while i had the computer hooked up short trem fuel trim was always trying to take fuel away and the O2 sensor was mostly rich the whole time.

check behind the intake manifold, there are vacume lines back there the split off into i think three. And if you dont have cruise control one of them has a cap on it.

This could also be a combo problem between fuel and spark. The misfire is saying spark so check that first, then move to the map and the O2...

I had bought some nice MSD wires off a member that were used for supposedly 5K miles.

I put them on and immediately i had a shitty running motor. period.

they looked fine but when I pull the wire out of the cylinder about 1" (while the motor is running) it arced out through the boot to the cylindder wall. It was shot but you can't tell visually.

Try your wires and check sparkplug gap. should ne .042 for N/A i presume.
