heres what i got......97 eclipse rs. plans to go strait for
the engine...all go,show kinda concept for right now.
top end/head rebuild:
crane DOHC cam 0010
crane or AEM adjst. cam gears
crane valve springs
felpro head gasket
eagle h-beam 4340 rods
je pistons (10.5)
rings...any suggestions?
clevite 77 rod & main bearings
port/polish
16 eaton pt cruiser lash adjusters (lifters)
16 pt cruiser cam followers (rockers)
Should I throw in new valves as well? Make a judgement
call on replacing when they are pulled? Is a new throttle body
necessary/worth it? i want to have the intake ported too...any
suggestions/specs to shoot for?

so you don't plan on turboing the engine i assume? If you do you should go with the 8.6:1 (or whatever they are) to make things easier on yourself. Save the money you are putting into the head which flows very well for being stock and put it into a turbo and get 3x the power out of it.
Oh and yes, get the new headgasket from the dealer.

i don't care for turbos and want to steer clear of them (n/t 4 life..uggnn), but after the head work is all finished, more than likely i'll be putting nos in it. yeah, 3x the power...but im not looking to go insane, just something reliable with a lil' kick in the ass, mind you..this car is and will be a daily driver....that is until i can afford another vehicle, but i gotta stop spending money on this car to do that.
Stick with the stock gasket?....Is the felpro one junk or something?

There is nothing wrong with the Felpro head gasket, except for the cost. I run one on my car with a 12.5:1 compression ratio, the gasket sweats a bit. I need to o-ring my head, but for a 10.5:1 no problems. I would also suggest changing the valves, one of the weekest parts of the head. If you want to use nitrous at some point I would change them for sure. I had some custom CP pistons built for my car, extremely well worth it. CP actually built a fifth one to take to SEMA for display. I would look into them for pistons as well. I would just have your throttle body port and polished as much a possible and have the intake manifold ported to match.

I run 10.5:1 CP pistons. Its a nice compression ratio. I've got Wiseco rings. There are some rings called Total Seal - thier performance/problems have been debated on here alot. I'd stick with something like Wiseco or Hastings, but you may want to research the Total Seals in this section and the turbo section a bit.
If you want a good gain from cams just head straight for the 18s. Don't even bother with the 10s - they're like a stock replacement. There's a descent thread in the Advanced section about the various cams for our cars. You may want to check that out. You've already got the high comp - IMO go for the high comp drag cams. Power all the way to the redline is nice.
I don't think I'd use the Felpro HG but thats just me. Actually, the general consensus around here is that the factory MLS gasket is damn good. You may want to do a little research on this forum about that Felpro gasket, I don't hear about it much.
As far as the valves are concerned - if you're gonna push alot of nitrous(~200 shot) you may want to consider stainless valves. They'll be much less prone to burning out than the stockers.

First before you choose to bore it, See how bad the cylinder walls are then go from there. If walls look like shit, piston rings broke, ect., then go to .020 over. You dont what to go to say .060 just cause you want to bore it, besides you will be running jucie and you would rather have a stronger wall than a weaker wall. Stronger wall being stock bore or close to it.

If you're gonna run 10.5 cr, I would recommend going with a bigger cam, especially if you're going with upgraded springs as well.
Crane 12's would be good for a daily driver, and Crane recommends those as the nitrous cam. The 14's aren't bad, but they have a smaller exhaust cam, which I don't like.
Crower 2's are roughly the same as the crane 12's.
I have a set of 12's, brand new in the box, I'm trying to sell.
