#82203, "what do i do? swap engines or rebuild?"

Ok i drove my 2nd gen 420a and i guess i didnt get any oil into the oil pump when i was driving it and it started making this weird clinking sound. so i pulled ovewr had it towed. got home had me and a friend look at it and it now has a loud annoying knock and when i tap the gas it makes a horriblke winding sound when the rpms go back down. my question is.... is the engine shot from the oil not gettin to the engine.... or could it possibly be just a head gasket or somethin? Also if i do need to swap should i swap to the 2.4L or just put another 2.0L in it and rebuild it. i still have a 4-1 header, intake and exhaust and i dont want to just get rid of em. but if i need to do a swap should i just do the 2.4L or will i even get that much more power out of the 2.4 over the 2.0? what do i do? as it is right now im fucked and have no car. need help asap

Chances are you're fo0ked. Rebuild yours, or find another 2.0l. You can swap in the 2.4, but it requires lots of customization to do so, and is not for the novice.

What to do... If I was in your shoes facing that decision, I would go for the 2.4. I would first get a cheap ass 800 dollar car and then start gathering parts and infor for the 2.4 swap. Or you can always just do the 2.0, which maybe cheaper and quicker but won't give you any power increase.

New Car:
2004 350z base, Nismo CAI, pioneer avic-n1 (dvd, cd, navi)

Old Car:
1998 GS with hrc stage 2, HID 6000k conversion kit, AEM UEGO wideband, sfmu, ml, prokits, Greddy warning gauges: egt, boost gauge, and oil pressure, apexi tt, haydans tranny cooler, costum dp, groundwires, dynotune fp gauge. gst muff, turbo spoiler
Boostin since Aug 03.

nothing like driving with the windows down and the music low: i love hearing the turbo spool, swwwhhhttt!!!!

If you go for the 2.4L, your header will likely not fit, as the 2.4L block is about an inch taller, requiring about an inch be added to the downpipe/exhaust system.

Again, it is not a swap for the novice. it is not a drop-in affair. There are several modifications that have to be made, including but not limited to the electrical system, oil pan, exhaust, ps/ac brackets, timing belt tensioner and its conficuration, and the fabrication of a motor mount.

ok well if theres hella dif mods id have to do for the 2.4L fuck it ill just keep the 2.0L. but my question is would it be cheaper to have it rebuilt or to swap it? and should i just go to a shop and just see if its like a blown head gasket or a bearing slipping or have them find the problem. or should i just swap or rebuild. i hate this shit id prefer to be dead then to live without my baby (the eclipse obviously)

If you want to do it the easiest way, just find a 420A shortblock in running conditrion and swap it in, or easier yet, a complete longblock.

You spun a rod bearing, no doubt about it. You'd have to turn the crank down .010" and replace all the bearings, as well as at least one piston and rod set.

ok well i talked to another guy that works on mitsubishis and hes sayin the exact same thing. he said i could either have a new short block put in or a long block or just burn it and tell my insurance that it it caught on fire from the oil hittin the exhaust as it was leakin and the damn thing burned up. Does anybody know of a shop in california that can rebuild my engine? prefered in the sacramento area but ill drive to where ever to get it done.
