My friend started his car this morning and he heard a knocking noise. Obviously he got rod knock. What I want to know is... would anything in the head be affected by the damage inside the block? I'm asking this because I'm purchasing a block from Lee and I want to make sure if it's only the block I need and not the head also. A local shop around here wanted to charge us $2000 to rebuild a stock block. I said "fook outta hurr". I might as well just buy a block for couple of hundreds and just drop that in.. right?? thanks -engz

Not unless you drive on it for a few thousand miles.
I've seen minor damage to the cam journals from bits of brokeoff bearing and piston kibble floating around in the oil. This was in engines that were driven deliberately with rod knock though.
