Anyone ever heard of this happening. If so what does it mean and can it be fixed. I have a chance to buy some forged JE pistons cause the ring seized on one of them and scored the cylinder wall. The block has to be bored out to get rid of the scratches so I have a chance of gettin these cheap...

I have seen this quite often in cars with bad detoantion problems, last time I saw one, 3 out of the 8 cylinders where like that is when a Chevelle motor's thermostat wasn't working and the motor was severly overheated.
when I disassembled the motor, one of the piston walls had chunk missing and it had fused itself to one of the piston rings.

If it got that hot , check the rod for straightness and you might want to inspect the crank rod journal for a flat spot.

I dont need the block. He has to get bigger pistons to put back in his block so hes selling the JEs for 50 bux. Only 1 of them has the rings seized on it. The other 3 are good. They were only in his car for about 5000 miles. I figured i could buy them and replace the 1 cheaper that i can buy a whole set.

hmmn i mis read what you ere saying. pointles to buy that piston set although the JE are pretty damn sexy and would look great on a shelf in the ouse once cleaned up of course. Depending on the part number of the JE's, someone here on this board had a similer deal and was selling three pistons. His were the old part number which were 1g heavier.

If it's a JE and the ring is seized, it's probably from detonation. The piston is useless, unless you need a shiny pencilholder.

Another thing to consider is that whatever abuse killed that one piston was also inflicted on the other three pistons to some extent. I would not want pre-abused pistons.

This is exactly what I was thinking. Do it once, do it right, don't be cheap.

The car went extremly lean while tuning on the dyno and thats when it happened. It still ran just got a lot of blow by. He ended up sellin them to someone else. It would of been hard finding another piston to match it. Im gonna save my money and get new pistons and rods and go that route. Just was hopin to get my car back together and out of the garage before it gets cold and starts snowing.

If the motor went lean, then the pistons were hurt. I would never trust them again in a motor that I was building up to make some power with.
