Hi, I hate posting things because I can usually find what I'm looking for in a search, but no luck this time, I've spent hours and found nothing. I've got the block still in the car and have totally removed the head and have replaced everything but the oil pump. I know how to take the crank pulley and sprocket off, but what exactly else to I have to take off to get the oil pump off. I bought a new melling oil pump to install, but I am kinda nervous because I've never done an oil pump before. What is the oil seal? Is it on the oil pump when you buy it? I also read somethiing about the rear plate? What's that? And do I have to take it off. Anyone who can help me with a step by step please do, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank god for this web site, it's helped me a lot in my building progress.

Well if the head is off, then your timing belt is off already. You have to remove the crank pulley and timing belt pulley, which you said you know how to do.. You have to take off the oil pan, and prob would be a good idea to remove the oil pickup tube before removing the pump. After all thats off, all that is left is the oil pump cover bolts, and whatever else is attached to the oil pump itself..I believe the timing belt tensioner plunger is..just take that off. Carefully pry off the oil pump when every bolt is out, just be careful not to damage any mating surface. If your new pump didn't come with a new front crank oil seal, now is the time to put one in. You will need some ANEROBIC sealant for the oil pump-to-block seal also. You can get this stuff at most any automotive parts store or the Dodge/Chrysler dealer. The dealer stuff is normally a red jelly type sealant, and others have used a green color sealant from Permatex, both work fine. A factory service manual will show you exactly where to put the sealant, or you may be able to see where it was on the old pump/block. Put a thin bead on the pump, and spread it thin with your finger around the pump. Lightly oil the front main oil seal lip with oil, and slide the pump back on,and torqe the bolts to spec with a torque wrench. Don't forget there is a rubber O ring on the oil pickup tube either.
