Hi there, I'm new to this forum. I have a red 1997 Eclipse GS, with some mods. Also I just got it workly finally after replacing a faulty ASD relay. Anyways it has Intake, 4 to 1 headers, Hi-flow cat, 2.25 exhaust, Upgraded Walbro Fuel Pump, MSD ignition coil. I really want it to be all motor, no nitrous or turbo. Other than pulleys what can I add without draining my bank account. Also theres this newbie in my town that got a 1994 Prelude Si with intake and exhaust and he keeps talking trash, I think with what I have its to close to call, so I need to upgrade for a sure win, any ideas on parts?
thanks

For all the money you are going to dump into your car for all motor, you will only get about 250HP to show for it.

Go turbo, for less money, even a Hahn Stage II will get you 275HP for approx $3,500.

That's a hard way to make $275 man. emoji

How serious are you guys about building all motor? Are your goals realistic? Honestly, you're going to need close to $5000 just to be approaching the 200 crank horsepower mark. Even more than that if you do the 2.4L swap.

Congrats on deciding on the road less traveled. Your next step should be to rebuild the motor. If you can do it all at once, then by all means, but either way, I'd suggest dropping a line to Mike or Chris at ERT to get some input on your plans relative to your goals. This is where it all starts to get expensive. I've been told I have the "most bad ass (documented) all motor set up," but I have no times or dyno slips for it yet and it's currently blown the fuck up. Fastest all motor time is 15 flat (14.6 had been set with a hacked tranny on slicks, but the car is no more) by a guy on here with a set up similar to mine.

I'm thinking Prelude Si with i/h/e and some tuning is going to walk away from you. Not run away, but he should pull on you very good.

Good luck and keep prushing the envelope guys! emoji

Wow. 2 1/4" exhaust?? thats stock diameter you know.

And there is no way in hell you will break or even come close to 250hp n/a. unfeasible.

When I first came on the board, I wanted to be all motor. I wanted to do whatever it took to reach 350HP. I was quickly informed, becasue of the limitations of a 2000cc motor, about 250hp was all I would ever see...I quickly ditched that idea, and started rooting for TURBO!!!

as said above 2.25 is nothing over stock. Cam gears, with what the current set up is, is going to do nothing if you do not tune with them.

And their are a lot of other 2GNTs out there that would laugh at you for even stepping to them with only a rebuilt head. There is a long road ahead of you before you can talk like that.

i think all of you that are NA should just stop wasting your money and turbocharge if you're all serious about performance. 4cyl cars NA is no fun, i'm telling all of you. sorry but it's a fact.

Lets be clear with the exhaust. It is 2.25" OD and 2" ID stock.

240whp on a 2.4 swap shouldn't be too hard to accomplish, and 240whp on a road race car is more then plenty. If you want to go drag race then go ahead and turbo, it's the only way, but if you want to go road race then an all-motor car will more than keep pace with a turbo car. Let the flaming be directed my way.

well to answer your question heres what I would go with added on to what you already have.

-AEM cold air intake (you already have)
-GReddy header
-some sort of 2.5" cat back exhaust (2,25 is stock diameter)
-hi flow catalytic convertor or test pipe (you already have)
-AF/X underdrive pulley
-AF/X performance ECU
-Crower or Crane cams and valve springs (if you replace the springs get the race cams)
MP 60mm throttle body
AEM cam gears (get them tuned on a chassis dyno)

With all those mods hopefully you should be putting down 140=150 hp at the wheels which is roughly what a stock GSR motor puts down. Good luck.
