Is there anybody that knows how to make the cable for the palm pilot for data logging? Or knows of some diagrams I can follow?

check out www.pocketlogger.com that might help, but I don't remember if they have instructions on how to do this on that web site.

If you can get on the talon digest, I'm positive people there would know.

I'm serching for the almost the same thing, I whant the wiring diagram for PC to OBDII. If my finding are exact, we need more than a cable, we need a "black box" that isolate our PC (or Palm) from the car.
In my case, signal from the serial port of the PC goes into the input of the "black box",and from the isolated output to the car.
You are probably gonna need a cable like one of those http://www.pocketlogger.com/?page=prod&prod=palm and some kind of "black box" (isolation device) and another cable if this box dont have the OBDII connector on it.
Here is a link http://www.opendiag.org/ that you shoud check out if you are a builder and not a buyer. Here is the plan http://www.planetfall.com/~jeff/obdii/ if you whant to do it. It's not for DSM but it's supposed to run on the same ISO standard as we use. Here is the third part http://www.bb-elec.com/bb-elec/literature/obdiij.pdf for the cable that plug to the car.

After christmas I'm planning to try all of this and see if theory will meet reality.

I don't think the pocket logger requies any sort of brake out box, at least the site says nothing to that extent. All it includes is:
PocketLOGGER for OBDII includes software for your Palm OS PDA, a fully molded data cable, and instructions.

Doesn't mention any brake out box which is why I want to just make my own. Hopefully I'll get this figuered out. Thanks for all that info, that will come in handy.

Every company has different cables. It all depends on the software you are using. Our cable has electronics (the "black box") embedded in it that allows our software to talk "OBDII" to the ECU.

You won't find a generic "OBDII Data cable".

They are all over ebay now. Someone finally got a hold of and duplicated the wiring diagram. It even comes with software. You can download the software all over the net also..

To the guy that brought this shit back to modern times: Don't worry man! Nobody is gonna take your business. I plan on doing some with you as soon as I find out how well your pocketlogger works with auto trannys. I haven't gotten any replys, but I don't know if my emails are even going through. Give me some info on this if you could.

(Note) I assume you work for or somehow involed with Pocketlogger.com since it is in your sig. If I am wrong, disregard my statement and call me a dumdass. emoji
