hey everyone,

WAS in the process of taking off the head off my 420a, got everything unattached, and when i went to take off the head bolts, i found the back intake side 5 bolts are STRIPPED! what do i do, what can i do ? any suggestions? by the way, im p&p'g the head if i ever get it off, TB , intake man, all of it.

help please

Check to see if the threads in the block are stripped also.... if not, just buy new bolts. if so, try to tap them again and buy new bolts.


BTW: how much are you paying to P&P the head?

you MIGHT be able to have a machine shop do a helicoil in the head. i dont know if they would hold with the head stud torque tho...

USED TO HAVE...Everything you wish you had, and then some...

Wow. That pretty much blows. See if there is a way to get some kind of a prying objectamajiggie between the head bolt washer and the head, and then try to unscrew the headbolt. Hopefully, the bolt will back out. Otherwise, pull the motor and try to pull it all apart when you can get more leverage on everything.

Again, that pretty much blows.

Sears sells a rounded bolt head socket. Hammer it on and it digs into the bolt head and twists them out. I've used it a couple of times and it works well, probably your best bet at the moment.

Who worked on your head last, that they stripped the heads?

i got them off , once i took the cams out i had straight on access to the bolts, and they came rite out, im not payin anyone to P&p the head, i did it myself and its already done :oD looks f'n awesome, smooth as a babys bottom, im doin the tb and intake man tommorow, gasket match the intake, thanks for the info though guys
