Background.. which most who know me already know: the car is turbo, it has a full 3'' mandrel bent downpipe which bypasses the cat, no test pipe, just solid downpipe emoji and a full 3'' mandrel bent exhaust that opens up to 4'' a few feet away from the 4'' inlet straight through design magnaflow race muffler.

Yes, turbo's help muffle the sound a little... but with the above exhaust setup, you can probably guess she is pretty damn mean.

Well, I am going into stealth mode, and need some help finding something that I can have welded in that will dramatically dampen the sound but not hinder my nice free flowing exhaust very much.

What do you all think? I am really looking for quiet... at least while cruising and at idle.. What ideas can you throw at me?

some type of resonator- not sure if they hurt performance, and im not sure if they build one that takes your piping but offhand thats the only thing i can think of...

I think you'd be better off finded a 3" perforated core resonator, one or two of those in verious legnths depending on how quiet you want her.

A glass packed resonator will eventually break down and loose effectiveness, if you can find a nice one with stainless teel packing you'll have a longer life out of it. But you will pay more for it.

i'm just totally guessing, but i would say more towards the front. being that if it were towards the back, the gases would be flowing easily then all of a sudden have to squeeze down to go through the resonator. but if you put in the beginning, then the gases flow through the turbo, then the resonator, then they have the rest of the way to flow freely.

but like i said, just guessing.

Ok, so I guess I will go with a resonator like the one suggested above ("Moroso Resonator - 3.0 inlet").

HOW MUCH quieter will it be if i add 2 of these vs one?

I'd go one at a time until I got my desired sound. They come in various lengths as well.

Im in the same boat as you man. I finally just had my local shope weld up a flange (at the rear of the car) that allows me to take the stock shit off pretty easy, and the full 3" straight through goes on. Now I used to have a GST muffler, but it got ssoooo clogged I now am using an afterburner replacement. It is much louder than the gst muffler but WAY quieter than the 3" straight through.
I will eventually go to one of those apex N1 style muffs with the insert and just pack the shit out of the insert. I have heard from some local honda owners that it works great. They are packing with steel wool.

i dont know jack about resonators, do they wear out over time i take it? or loose effectivness? is that just for some designs like glasspack ones? what about the spiral designed morroso listed above, is that just a baffled muffler?

A resonator is basically a stright-through muffler that has a perforated tube down the center and is packed with fiberglass or any other material. The nice thing about them is they're straight-through design and put very little restriction on the exhaust gases.

Super20G- I basically had the same setup as you and I used 2 resonators. One in the front and one in the back. The front was a bit longer. Length doesn't matter much with these things, just get them in where you have room to fit them.

*edit*
I got mine at J.C. Whitney.
