#80246, "Overheating after top end P&P!"

I just got my top end ported and polish, put the crane camshaft, AEM Cam Gears and Howell Automotive UDP. Accel spark plugs wire, NGK BKR7EIX-11 and MSD coil pack. I still have the stock headers with no plate cover on. I'm gonna replace it in 3 days when the new aftermarket headers arrive. My question is:
1. How to overcome this oveheating problem. Would the fluidyne radiator help? Or get the thermostat cooling system?

2. Do I need to go to dyno tune after I got this new top end in my car? How much dyno tune cost?

Thanks!

Paul

By keeping your cooking system up to par.

Extremely doubtful. Your problem is elsewhere.

Your thermostat is part of the cooling system. emoji

Flush your system and replace the thermostat and rad cap. If you're paranoid then get a cooler (180) from Howell.

You still don't have much to tune really. You can play around with the cam gears a bit but don't expect huge gains if any. If you're curious about the numbers then sure.

Group dyno days usually run around 40-60. A one on one is closing in and passing 100. Lots of options when you dyno as well (A/F, etc)

if u can visually see your temp gauge going up, then down, and up again, your thermostat is sticking. once you overheat one time, that is enough to ruin a thermostat. i had to replace mine again for the second time in 2 months.they are cheap as hell, but noone seems to have the right gasket. i had to make my own. in anycase, winter is comming where i live, so i just put in a 195 thermostat.

also, what i did was on the bottom left(facing the car) of your radiator, there is a drain plug. pull it out, let all the water drain, undo the 2 bolts where u fill ur coolant and pull out the tstat
then, i put a hose up to the radiator inlet, and a little bit of crud and dirty water came out the block and onto the ground. make a good seal and turn the water preasure up so it shoots out heh, gets it nice and flushed.
then, close up your radiator drain plug, put a little bit of water in it, put your antifreeze in, then put more water in it. once it appears to be full, start your car up. i just leave the cap off, it might get a little coolant on ur enginebay, but it will live. wait for it to make sucking noises, or until you can see it jettting water through your new thermostat. then when it stops, add water, and keep adding. eventually, it will choke up, and everyonce in a while the tstat will kick on and a bubble will burp out. just idle it there for a while until ur sure u got all the air out of the system.fill it up, fill up ur overflow to the line, and call it good. the air in there will heat up and cause hot spots. and if u don't put antifreeze in ur water, it will boil up really easy and thats just as bad.

Having Problems? Heres my Three step solution to anything 2gnt related.
Step 1: Put down everything in your hands.
Step 2: Grab a lucky strike, Smoke it.
Step 3: Walk to the fridge, double fist some keystone ice, sit down in the shade, drink one beer, finish cigarette, drink other beer, roll a joint, smoke it, walk back to your problem, and in about 5 minutes the solution will come to you.
If not. Go here: here

If still nothing, your trying to hard. Start over at step 1.
