I don't think you can do the "key dance" on a 98 but you may as well try it out.

You can't on a 98, I had my engine light turn on a few months ago and tried the key dance like crazy but no luck, I was then informed key dance won't work on 98/9. Had to end up taking it to satan so they could diagnose it

I dont know if this will help but my light came on two days ago for no reason,at this time the car was idling a little funny, nothing major though... well on a whim i decided to change the spark plugs and wires (old plugs were Bosch Plats with about 3k on them) I put NGKs on this time and also had disconnected my battery for the duration of the plug install. Well lo and behold the car is driving like new and the bastard light is gone... So try disconnecting the battery and letting the ECU reset. Just a longshot but maybe you will have good luck.

Yes diconnection the battery will reset the ECU and get rid of the CEL. If it was a phantom code then you will be fine. If it come back then get it checked out and see what is tripping the computer.
