#79693, "HELP ME PLEEEZ!! Engine dies with a/c on"

WTF.... i live in houston and its like 100 degree weather right now....anywayz, my car starts up fine runs fine... but once i turn on the a/c the car will die if i dont give it gas... sometimes the RPM's will drop to zero, the car shakes and then barely brings itself back up... NOW, with the the a/c off, the rpms still do that but BARELY. My normal idle is maybe 800ish and with the a/c off, it drops to maybe 600-750ish.... this started to happen maybe 2 days ago...... what could cause this or whats the problem? i need to fix it cuz the van im drivin now doesnt have A/C at all..... =o( i sweat when driving 70mph with the windows down... its gettin dangerous cuz i break with my left foot while at the same timing giving it some gas.....HELP!!!!!! THANK YOU

That REALLY sounds lilke you either have a voltage problem. Either your battery or your alternator.

If not, next is checking for a vacuum leak.

Hope that helps, good luck

bad idle problems are usually a result of an ignition problem. change the plugs and check the wires and coil.

If it is a vac. leak, this is how I checked for it, and it worked. This will only work if you have a place you can use an air compressor, it doesnt have to be a big one.

Take off you intake tube

Cap your throttle body off with a rattle can cap. I used one from a can of carb cleaner. It has to fit pretty tight.

Take the vac line off the top of you TB, thats the easiest to get to. Use an extra piece of hose about 4-6 inches long and hose clamp one end to the tip of a trigger style air sprayer that goes to the air comp. Hose clamp the other side of the hose to the top of the TB where you took off that vac line.

Lightly force air into the intake manifold letting in a little air at a time, so if there is a leak, you will hear it in spurts and not just a continouis flow and not be able to tell if its a leak or the air line your using.

Its easier to have someone run the air so you can poke and prod around using both hands.

I had a naked supermodel help me, so it worked out pretty well.

Hope that helped, good luck
DJ
