Hey fellas, my friend has a 96 RS Auto. She recently replaced the fuel pump with OEM, it was running fine but recently it has started the stall/no start mess it had before she replaced the fuel pump, it has a full tank, and will not start as of now.
She is going to put it in the shop for an oil burning issue. Do the 2.0 Chryslers have the same problems as the 3.0 Mitsus, out of place valve guides, or is it her rings? It has had a hard life but has been babied for the last 50K. It has 115,500 right now. Thanks for any help.

Typically it is rings or leaking headgaskets. Our valve guides/seals are not known for leaking, but it never hurts to buy new seals - they're not expensive.

The MFI relay may not be turning on when you try to start the car. This will prevent the fuel pump from starting. No fuel pressure, no start. It is one of the relays on the firewall. They can be finicky, especially if you unplug it and replug it. They can work intermittently. Once the car starts, it will run fine until you shut the car off (then all bets are off).
The test is to listen for the fuel pump priming every time you try to start the car. Click the key to the "ON" position. You should hear a quick whine from the rear seat area (about 1 second). That is the fuel pump priming. It will do this for the first two times you click the key to the "ON" position. After that, it will stop priming. You can remove the back seat to listen better.
If you don't hear the whining and the car doesn't start, then you may have the problem. If you do hear the whine and the car doesn't start, you know thats not it.
I had this problem one summer. It drove me mad because it was unpredictable. It started after I did a compression test. I may have gotten moisture (humidity) into the connections. I refilled the relay and connector with grease. Haven't had a problem since Corbin

why are you posting if she is going to put the car in the shop?
if you are trying to figure out a solution to the problem yourself before she has to shell out the $$, then be more specific about the oil burning issue. maybe it has something to do with the intermittent starting.
