I finally got my car back together and started it up with the new cams. The first time I had it running only 2 of the stock injectors in the primary rail were working, so I replaced those, and now it idles much like the stage 2's. I don't have an AFC, I'm running about 40-45 PSI at idle, and it holds itself around 800-900 RPM's.
So I'm out on a test drive playing around with the new WBO2 and the 034EFI and my wastegate pin fell out, AND I sprung a fuel leak. Luckly I broke down right across the street from a hardware store so I jury rigged it up with the secondary rail completely bypassed so I could get home.
Anyways, these cams sound SOOOOO cool. It SCREAMS around the intake manifold resonance and above 5500 RPM's. The noises the intake makes at high RPM's is much louder than my turbo and blow off valve ever were.
Low end torque isn't as bad as I thought it would be. From 5000-5500 RPM's and up these cams pull. A LOT. My redline isn't high enough to fully take advantage of them yet.
I can't wait until my clutch can hold some boost so I can hear what that sounds like. I'll have to play around with the intake cam to find out how many degrees of retard it will take to produce the most power (reducing the overlap... these cams have 16 degrees of overlap, retarding the intake cam 8 degrees will completely eliminate that, but I have to get on a dyno to really get that tweaked)
Anyone with the Crower stage 2's looking for something a little more should definately upgrade to these.

Having Problems? Heres my Three step solution to anything 2gnt related. Step 1: Put down everything in your hands. Step 2: Grab a lucky strike, Smoke it. Step 3: Walk to the fridge, double fist some keystone ice, sit down in the shade, drink one beer, finish cigarette, drink other beer, roll a joint, smoke it, walk back to your problem, and in about 5 minutes the solution will come to you. "Streetable" is a pretty loose term... Do you mean, if you have these cams is it easy to start moving from a stop when parked facing uphill? They are a little tricky to modulate around idle because the car just wants to stall if you let up on the clutch, you kind of have to start slipping it from 1500+ for it to be happy.
Emissions? You're going to fail them no matter what aftermarket camshaft you buy. If you can pass emissions with an aftermarket camshaft it's probably not doing much for you at all.

thats why you need something to control the fuel long overlap and duration profiles kill low end torque, tuning it up and degreeing the cams might bring a lot of that back. *ahem* but so would more cc's. i mean the crower 3's are serious race cams and well how many 4 cyl 2 liter race engines do you know of that dont operate best between 5500-redline?

i have a couple questions regarding the difference in cams relating to my setup. i have a ported and polished intake, ported and polished head with 1mm oversized valves, and a cheapie header. i just got a stage 3 spec clutch also that i'll slap in this weekend. now my question is, will there be much difference in low end torque between the 2's and 3's because i have the oversized valves? will it actually be even worse or does it improve with high lift cams?? let me know, i'll be making my cams decision in the next week...chris
