#78519, "Can't get your UDP off? ..... suggestion."
I had an extremely difficult time getting my UDP off this last time largely due to the fact the threads in the pulley were completely stripped out by the previous owner. This post is for anyone in the same situation.
Once I got it off I took it to my shop and drilled the 3 holes out with 25/64 drill bit. It's maybe a 16th larger than the exisiting hole. I wouldn't go bigger, you don't want to jepardize the strength of the pullley. I then tapped it with a 7/16-14 tap. The 14 is coarser thread than the 20, which means less threads, but they are much more meaty. I don't know what the original threads are in the AFX UDP b/c mine were stripped when I got it, but they look like maybe they were a 3/8-24 or something (anyone shed some light on that?). Anyway, I like the bigger thread better b/c it's a bigger bolt and I'm thinking this should signiificantly help pulling the pulley next time.
Also, I cut a large circle out of the timing belt guard directly behind the UDP, which allows me to get my fingers in behind the pulley and put a nut on the back of the threads and pull that way if necessary. If you can't get your pulley off doing these 2 things .... your screwed.
