Alright, IM going to the garage today to make an EGR blockoff plate. Im turboing my car soon and Ive learned its a big no no to have it hooked up. But Im not going to install it till I get a few answers from you guys. Now I live in PA where they do emission inspections aswell, and I know it wont pass with it on. My question is, is there something I can do before the inspection date that will give it a normal reading again? Like put it back to stock like a week before and reset the ECU? Also the block off plate is made to go in between the EGR and the head right, not one of the tube endings? Then is there anything else I have to do to make it run right? Like with the wiring harness or the vac lines?
As always, thanx ahead DJ
P.S. I didnt do a search on it yet but since Im here, I'll ask. How do you guys put pictures of your rides on your posts? Maybe one of you could give me a link or just an answer. Later

You will not fail a smog test because of the EGR block off. You will fail if you have a CEL for it and they see that. The EGR does nothing after the car is warmed up, so if you make sure the car is well at operating temps and you don't get a CEL for flow or function, you should be fine however you decide to block it off man.

The block-off plates I have allow you to completely remove the EGR system. That freed up some desperately needed space. I am sure that I will pass the sniffer and CEL in VA. I will likely re-install the EGR for my testing next month. I am afraid that they will catch me on the visual.

Corbin, you've caught my interest in the complete removal of the EGR. I have no inspections/emissions in Indiana. Fabbing some new block-off plates wouldn't be a problem. Have any pictures, or a quick insight on the process? I just got my p&p head and intake mani back and I honestly don't want any more crud flowing through there than need be. I plan on removing my pcv as well and routing up a catchcan, this would help as well...correct?

No pictures, but all you need it two plates. Mine are MOPAR. Its black anodized aluminum about 1/8" thick. One has two bolt holes and connects to the back of the intake manifold. It uses the same gasket that the EGR tube used (composite). The second plate has two bolt holes and connects to the front drivers side of the head where the metal EGR valve was. It uses the same gasket that the EGR valve used (metal). You could duplicate this pretty easily.

hmm.. I might get flamed for this but why is it a big no no to have your egr on in a turbo car. Is it for detonation reason? Does that gas heat up the air or what?
