how much louder,if they do,do they make exhaust sounds?i got a turbo and wanted to spool quicker but i didn't wanna attract too much attention w/ a really loud exhaust.

don't know how much hp you are shooting for, but a 2.5" will work just fine.
u can also get a silencer with some mufflers so they won't be as loud.

2.5 should be fine unless he is thinking of pushing over 300hp.

I wanna get 2.5" pipes. Auto doesn't matter. The exhaust isn't a tranny part. It helps the engine breathe.

well, trish, a smaller pipe help low end which you auto peeps REALLY need but a bigger pipe help top end and yes 2.5 is good for turbo cause i just put a 2.5 with hi-flow cat and dunk muff on the GSX and the turbo reachs full boost 500 to 800 rpms sooner.

a 3 inch exhaust will help the turbo spool up quicker in high boost situations. unless your past a "stage 2" turbo setup you really don't need that much. it won't change the sound much assuming you get the same muffler with a 3 inch inlet. if it's to loud you can get resonators put on but turbos do pretty well at limiting sound so it shouldn't be a problem. your turbo spooling would prolly reach more db's than your exhaust

From my understanding, the turbo acts like a muffler also. I was told that if you had 2 identical cars, one turbocharged and one not, the turbo car would be more quiet since the turbo dampens the noise.. It sounds good but I dunno if its true, any help on that guys?

yeah, especially when you have an aftermarket BOV to mask out the sound, its like vvrrrroooommmmmmfffuuuuuuuiiii and repeat.
About the auto thing, the way i look at it is we don't do much before about 3k, so a little less isn't gonna hurt, and then gain it back at the top. But if you're staying NA might as well just get a muffler first and worry about the piping after

This is pretty much aimed at Trisha or other people with auto's, stick bigger is almost always better
With a turbo'ed auto (even a stock turbo auto) the best way to go for lag is 2.5" downpipe - flex then a 3" cat and 3" catback. (this seems best for powerbrakeing)
NA auto you are better off with 2.25" or at the VERY max 2.5" to try and retain what little low end you have.

I got a custom 3 inch system and it loud as hell compared to my old plain ol 2.5" performance muffler with stock piping. The car acts much different as well, like the revs stay up longer, and the engine wants to rev faster as opposed to when you had more backpressure probably because you've lost some low end torque.

So to answer your question yes it's loud hehe. I have custom crush bent 3" piping, 3" resonator, and 3 inch magnaflow = LOUD. I'd say it's a bit quieter than a 2.5" Greddy catback because my car is slightly quieter than Kory's, but that's probably because of the turbo.

I was actually contemplating 3" from the DP all the way to the muffler(tanabe racing medallion)...I got the Apexi N1 right now and I forgot what piping it came w/.....I put the silencer on for awhile cause o' a fix it ticket and it sucked....gas mileage improved though...

the size of the stock piping is like 2 and a 1/4 pressbent. but sum peeps have measured the diameter on the inside and have posted numbers like 1.7 inches. i felt a positive gain when i added 2.5" mandrel bent, lost a lil low end, but high end gains outweigh em.

mine was loud and raspy after i changed the pacesetter muff to a straightthrough one, so i hooked up a glasspack resonator, and she hums priiddy nice now.

hey michelle, how does your car act without the powersteering?? im thinkin about not hookin up the belt when i change pulleys tomorrow. and also, did u end up takin out the whole powersteering assembly, or just left off the belt??
