#77733, "Lope without aftermarket cams"

Hey fellas, Now that I got the car registered in the state I moved to, I have one last bug after the rebuild.

At first I had problems with the car shutting off....turned out to be the alternator. Got that replaced...good to go there.

The car has a lope when it is idling, but I have oem cams in it.

I'm guessing that the timing is slightly off, is there anything else it could be (I hope so.)

Car runs great on the highway and is quite peppy compared to 8 months ago before spinning the bearing.

Thanks in advance for the input.

Tony

I gotta code 11, so I guess that confirms my timing is off by a tooth.

I also have a 41, which is generator not switching properly. Would a UDP cause that, cuz I just installed a new alternator.

Thank You
Tony

yes your timing is off....i did a head job and when i got it together was off by a few teeth and she loped real nice. accelerated great to but that was the problem. your second code refers to the regulaot circuit not switching on and off correctly. which as you guessed it is inside the alternator.

no a UDP will not cause that

im going WAAAAY out on a limb here, but i remember reading a while back that voltage regularion was (in part) a function of the ECU. seeing as how you getting some really strange codes but not experiencing any *mechanical* problems...bad ecu perhaps?

The code 11 is understandable....I'm gonna drive it like it is till I can get in there and redo the timing.

The code 41 causes concern though, since the alternator was replaced 3 days ago. Not quite sure what to think about that, I guess it's a good thing I got the lifetime warranty on it.

The ECU, should that be a concern or no.

TIA
Tony

Tony, glad to hear you got the car up and running again. I'm throwing out a suggestion here, but how about ensuring that all the connections related with the altenator are in tact and clean as in no corrosion on the wires/connectors. If you ever get the chance add a ground wire package. Theres some info on here if ya search.

i was just throwing out an idea asshats. emoji

does the alternator seem to be causing any problems (dimming/blinking lights, whine in the audio signal, strange idle other than the timing problem, etc)? check your voltage..is it normal? if everything seems fine, it sounds like you have a haunted car. i really cant give any more info on the voltage regulation. all of our alternators are internally regulated, but supposedly (according to some members), certain years rely on the ECU as a secondary regulator. it might just be a myth, i really dont know.

The code 41 is probably a leftover from you replacing the alternator. Ignore it and it will go away.

Thanks for the input guys. Cas....what up bro...haven't talked to ya in a minute.

SPL....I wasn't dissing your suggestion....I'm still noobish....so the ECU thing wasn't out of the question to me.

Well......now I guess I just need to redo the timing so my car will quit loping....lol.

The ground wire kit is in in the works for me....been searching on it.

Thanks fellas.

disconnect it for a bit...see if the 41 comes back.

Having Problems? Heres my Three step solution to anything 2gnt related.
Step 1: Put down everything in your hands.
Step 2: Grab a lucky strike, Smoke it.
Step 3: Walk to the fridge, double fist some keystone ice, sit down in the shade, drink one beer, finish cigarette, drink other beer, roll a joint, smoke it, walk back to your problem, and in about 5 minutes the solution will come to you.
If not. Go here: here

If still nothing, your trying to hard. Start over at step 1.
