im building my motor aug 1st with a bunch of toys....i dont have enough money for cams yet so i just getting all the internal work done so i dont have to pull apart my bolt again any time soon. Im putting in weisco pistons, crower rods, indy std size stainless steel valves and crane valve springs and is it really worth buying retainers and shit....i was wondering if there really worth the extra money...i was going to run the stock retainers. then later down the road buy the pt lifters, rockers and crower stage 2 or 3 cams

unless your going above 8k the only benefit would be the weight of them. 1 set of 16 titanium retainers weigh as much as one stock steel retainer

If your going to upgrade your cams in the future it wouldn't hurt. I went with them for insurance and the realization of a quality.

The purpose of titanium retainers/locks is the ability to handle high lift aggressive cams. weight is another plus but strength is the main goal. Like stated above there arent any documented cases of our letting go but in other brands/makes its an issue. Especially harley's..trust me i know..lol

I'll let you know what I think of them tomorrow night when Daisy comes back to life. I've got them, with the 1mm oversized SS valves, Crower 2 cams, a 5 angle from ERT, and a race port from FierroRacing.

There is only 3 ways to make power for engines:

1. Increasing cylinder pressure = putting more air by any means (turbo, nos, N/A mods, machining for better airflow), or raising compression.

2. Reducing the amount of rotational mass

3. Reducing the amount of friction!!

Guess what, our engines, err in fact every engine, is actually making more power, about 30-50 more then they are actually advertised!! It takes power to drive the cams, pistons, cam springs, blah blah blah becuase they cause friction. If everything in our engines caused no friction whatsoever, heck we'd all be hitting mid 14's by now, thats just aint happening in this dimension!. You can reduce friction to make power however, less weight against the springs means less spring pressure working against the engine which means less friction meaning more power! Titanium valves, valve retainers are golden! go for it! I dont see how it can hurt performance or reduce engine longevity? Does anyone see it? anyone??
