#77541, "How long will a motor run on 3 pistons"

Just curious since i blew my last motor on how many miles will a motor run with the 4th rod snapped. I was thinking that the main bearing would go from the unbalanced vibration.

I don't see why. If he's getting a new motor for it, what does it matter what he does to the old one? This is no different from just taking a sledgehammer to it after he pulls the motor out, or, in all reality, blowing a motor at the track two days before your new built motor is going to go in. Who cares? If he wants to fuck it up, fuck it up. Pull off the plugwire and the injector harness and fuck it up already.

I dont care about the motor at all. I saw the crank was trashed already and the head is shot from valvetap. The motor could explode if it wants to as soon as I get there. All im worried about is getting stuck on the freeway. I was told that If i pull the injector off and check oil very often, the only thing I gotta worry about it a shit load of blow by and that fact that 1 piston is now doing twice the work. If I could get this car 300 miles then Ill drop in sonnys motor

edit: the motor was just built up a week ago before it took a crap. New gaskets and ring and oil pump.

dude if you keep driving it...its going to be severely unblanced...you'll fuckin thrash who knows what...and who knows your actual BLOCK might be salvageable. i say just accept your fate and tow that bitch to whereever it needs to sleep until you can fix it. i think you're going to regret severely running on and blowing the fuck out of it just for like a WHOA! effect...ehh whoa cares about a motor.

edit: think about it this way.

pull the injecotr out, yadda yadda....go to start it up. car doesnt get oil pressure obviously. you start driving. oil splashing all around inside the open cylinder, car misfiring and choking like a mother fucker. cel's up the ass. oil inside the cylinder flying into the valves cloggin up the intake and burning in the exhaust. smoke like a mofo. oil starves the bearings to the other rods and mains. you hear a knocking. rods blow out of the block and you snap a motor mount from all the vibration.. motor starts flapping around in the hood. starter blew into the fan and radiator when the 4th rod blew out of the block and hit it. rods on fire with burning oil. oil pan with gaping holes...tons of oil everywhere..TONS of smoke and you just flat out grenade everything like fucking hiroshima! and like dino said to me one time...the flywheel comes off and cuts through the firewall like a fucking buzz saw and cuts off your nuts. then what....you sell your car. bye bye 2gnt.

just my .02, i'll shut the fuck up now

i say....blow eeet uppp!!! post the results on the main site. for an fyi.

Having Problems? Heres my Three step solution to anything 2gnt related.
Step 1: Put down everything in your hands.
Step 2: Grab a lucky strike, Smoke it.
Step 3: Walk to the fridge, double fist some keystone ice, sit down in the shade, drink one beer, finish cigarette, drink other beer, roll a joint, smoke it, walk back to your problem, and in about 5 minutes the solution will come to you.
If not. Go here: here

If still nothing, your trying to hard. Start over at step 1.

I dont beleve he needs to worry about any oil blowby because the piston is still in the bore so it would plug it up. If you are going to try this take a hoseclamp with rubber and put it on the crank journal that had no rod to keep the oil pressure up. and just take it easy...

haha yeah now wer're talkin! Hell, i think it would work too emoji You could also try to take off the 4 rocker arms from that cylinder's valves, but not sure if the lifters will go shooting out from the oil pressure haha..I dont see why leaving out that piston will really hurt, esp if you can keep your valves from opening and fuel spraying, spark flying. It will be unbalanced as all hell, run like crap, but hey, it'd be fun tying it emoji I'd be most worried about the oil pressure from not having a rod on the crank journal. That will kill it fast for sure..If you can circumvent that issue, then what the hell, do it..its not my motor haha

lol..i dunno if this would even do the same thing as his engine..but christmas morning i completely blew up my piston (literally nothing left haha)..and ran the motor for like..2 weeks or so...even went half an hour up a dam mountain haha..plus the 02 was completely shot and even before the engine blew i coudlnt put my foot down too much or it just wouldnt go any faster lol...so it was a nice slow trip everywhere i went..every stoplight i'd have to keep revvin it so it didnt stall out on me ..oh well waht r ya gonna do..

Well I did make it and I also had some advice for anyone willing to try it cause its scary as fuck running on the freeway 2 AM with a halfass car and no cellphone.

Thanks guys for motovating me especially the quote "run it like a true racer all the way till it blows"

To resurrect an old thread... I have successfully created a running 3 cylinder 1998 Ford Escort using tips from this thread I remembered about from years ago, lol. My sister had dropped a valve seat in the fourth cylinder on her SOHC Escort. A VERY common problem on these cars! But instead of stopping when she first heard the noise she continued to drive on it for at least 30 minutes! Then she called me to come and check it out emoji I towed it to my house from there. Well needless to say, she broke the fourth piston right off the wrist-pin including the piston skirts. So it was knocking horribly! I asked her what she wanted to do. She said she had no money but just needed a car to drive. So I thought for a few minutes and remembered this thread. So I figured my time and a gasket kit was worth the shot. Well, with the tips I read from here, I got it going! Just thought I had to share emoji

I also have had my 2gnt run on three cylinders for nearly 3000 miles. Ran rough as shit but drove until I could rebuild it.

Amazingly my friend's 383 V8 camaro ran on only three cylinders firing for a couple of hours.

You can live without food for a couple weeks, live without water for a couple days, but you cannot live without hope for more than a couple seconds.

Shoot, I drove 10 miles to work and back daily for 3 months on 3 of them. 5 days a week. It ran like complete shit, but it ran. Up a bridge twice a day at that!
