Ok guys, here's the deal. I've got everything hooked up to engine now. But, there's one plug-in on the wiring harness that has no place to go. I can't get a picture of it so I'll describe it for ya. It's on the part of the harness that goes to the crank sensor, alternator, and oil pressure sending unit. The plug-in is oval-shaped w/ two prong holes in it, and it has a yellow rubber sleeve around the base. Now there's also a threaded hole by this plug-in that's on the firewall side of the block at the back of the motor below a freezeplug that's bigger in diameter than those other threaded holes back there. The thing is I don't have any leftover parts from the engine. I'm thinking a sensor of some sort goes there but I don't know. If you guys could help me out I'd really appreciate it. This is the only thing keeping me from firing her up.

You missed "knock sensor" in your list of things that go on that harness section, so i'm assuming that the plug you're seeing, and the threaded hole you found are for that.
If i had a spare i'd offer it up.. might check sale/wanted if you can't find yours.

The knock sensor doesn't necessarily have to hold you up. You could drive without it until you find one. I drove with mine unplugged for a month with no CEL.

It has to be the knock sensor by process of elimination. There is only 4 plugs on that part of the harness. One goes to the oil sending unit, the middle one goes to the knock, and the last 2 go to the alternator; ground and sensor. Hope that helps. If you can't figure it out borrow a digital camera or buy a Chiltons. Good luck.

Yeah, thanks for the help fellas. I figured I'd just buy another sensor becuase I couldn't find my other one. And the thing is, I have a Chilton's and in there it says the knock sensor is on the other side of the block, in front of the starter Ah well, I trust more in you guys on this one anyway.

Welp, I've got one more question here. First of all, I ordered a new knock sensor from the dealer for $70, and they said it would be in today. But turns out it won't be in until next week, and I can't wait that long! So I'm wondering if you guys think it would be smart to start the engine after the rebuild w/out the sensor. I know Corbin said he ran w/out it for a month but I'm just making sure this would be all right until I get the knock sensor. Thank you much!

I wouldn't go tearing ass around without it, but it won't hurt it to just start and idle and maybe drive a little without it. You'll get a CEL.

I've run my car at aproximately 10.5:1 compression give or take. With premium gas and no knock sensor. You'll be fine.
Some have heard of people that have seen two knock sensors, I personally don't have one, nor have I seen an example on anything but a 2.4L. I wonder if it has anything to with a possiblly different spec cars, like Cali spec or something.

I took apart a 97 model year block that had two knock sensors. Only time I've ever seen more than one.

So, do you think it'll be alright if I do some 30-55mph pulls, keeping it under 3500rpm, w/out the knock sensor then? Sorry for being so peculiar about this thing but I just don't want to hurt anything while driving w/out the sensor.
