Just wondering if anyone has experienced this: had a bad oil leak at the bedplate so we pulled the engine, removed the bedplate and resealed it using the correct sealant. Problem is the crank doesn't turn-didnt want to destroy anything by putting too much pressure on the crank bolt. Everything is torqued according to spec and in the proper sequence. How much effort is required to turn the crank (and the pistons)? Timing belt is not on at this time. TIA

Are the plugs in? Did you disconnect the rod caps before you messed with all that or were the pistons being worked around in the bores by your manhandling the bedplate/crank?

If you used the same bedplate, same bearings, and Loctite 518 between the bedplate and the block... there should be very little resistance. You can just barely spin the pistons and crank with one hand, fingers on bedplate, thumb on crank counterweight. Might need 2 thumbs, but nothing more than that.

Possible things:
- Spun bearing...just slightly off center
- Bearing tab not seating
- Foreign object between bearing and block/bedplate
- Foreign object between crank and bearing (just one speck of dirt will seize the crank)
- Didn't use Moly Engine assembly lube on friction surface of ALL bearings
- Wrong bedplate
- Crank gear or Crank pulley on too tight

Thanks! I knew I could count on someone on this site. I will check all of the above suggestions.

yea you probly have some oversize bearings in there on a standard crank. with some oil in the bores you should be able to turn the crank by hand though, or at least with a wrench. it should be smooth though. and make a suction type sound....~~~oooh its sexy just thinking about~~~

probly just the wrong size bearings for the crank journals and you're exceeding the clearances.

plastigauge, pick some up. make sure that shit is perfect

edit:

when installing the bedplate make SURE YOU HAVE A NEW BEDPLATE TO BLOCK 0-RING. use anaerobic sealant. (that red stuff in the blue bottle from autozone works good) check dino's sig for the tech manual for where the bedplate o-ring is. its a pink 0-ring and the bedplate WILL LEAK if you forget it. dr1665 got owned before on that one emoji also use the proper bolt tightening procedure (start from the in, work your way out) on the main bolts

anything else just ask away
